Re: 87 tpi iroc z good buy?OPINIONS!!!

Looks like a very clean original car with low miles. I feel that $10k is way too much. Can you get VIN#? 1987 was first year for 350, eight digit of VIN is 8 for 350. That would make it a little more valuable. Have you looked around a lot? Seems there are many camaros for sale.

I bought my 92 with 42,000 miles for $3,000. It needed tires, bumpers, interior work, tune up and will need paint job. I figure to get it looking nice with no mods (still stock), it will cost me $8,000 total. I would offer something around there. Yes it is a beautiful car but not that rare.

kelly blue book on that car is $4200, at least where I am. In your part of the country it may be different but not by $5000 i don't think. You could probably do better if you shop around.

Re: 87 tpi iroc z good buy?OPINIONS!!!

I think that as with most things, it really depends on a lot of different factors. Are you a little older, and can you drop the 10,000 without damaging your bank account? ...or are you getting your license soon, and saving paper route money for the 10,000?

The car sure looks clean, and while I won't say "rare", they are getting harder to find. I won't buy a thirdgen with grey interior, so that red makes it a little more valuable to me. My 89 is that clean as well, and while I've got a lot more miles, I've got a lot of mods, and it still looks stock. I'd LOVE to think I could get 10 for mine. I don't think I could however.

The mileage, cleanliness, and collectability of a 350 '87 Iroc WILL undoubtadely be worth something, but I don't know if that day is today. 10 seems a tad high. ...but.... If you're at the point in your life were you can afford it, and you're looking back to the days when you were younger and always wanted an Iroc Z, go in there and negotiate a little and get the car you want!!!!!!!!!!!! To ME, my car is worth EVERY bit of 10,000 but I know I'd never get it from someone else.

Nice, clean car. But $10k is a bit much. Drum brakes?

...that's kinda my point though. Our Thirdgens are starting to cross that line from where the value of a car is more than simply the sum of all the parts. There's starting to be nostalgic, intangible value to these cars and there's no real baseline.

If you're looking for a clean, low mile, 87 L98 car, they ARE getting hard to find. 2 or 3 years ago, 10,000 woulda been a joke. 2 or 3 years FROM now, it'd probably be a steal

So hard to say right now. Hard to see how fast (or slow) these cars will appreciate.

Re: 87 tpi iroc z good buy?OPINIONS!!!

thanks for all the opinions..this car is a 305 not a 350 i called and asked the seller.. i'm going to look at it tomorrow, not sure if drum brakes or not, if i'm interested in it i was going to offer 7k do you think i could go lower since its not a 350? I'm able to go a little higher but i think 10k is way to much.

Re: 87 tpi iroc z good buy?OPINIONS!!!

The guy selling it probably paid 3K for it. A 305 car is not worth 10K. If it was a 350 car I would pay not more 7K. The car is really nothing that special. But as a 305 car no more than 5K. If it had 15 thousand in mileage it may pull 8 to 9K.

Is that primer over spray on the radiator? It's well detailed. I'm sure it won't stay looking like that for long.

Cargo covers (trunk shades) were available in '87.

why wouldnt you buy a thirdgen with grey interior? i love the grey interior on my iroc and its even faded somewhat! it looks retro with the black shiny dash and my dark grey sheepskin seat covers, blue steering wheel cover, and faded grey interior. just take a look at my pics of the interior and it looks even better in dim light.

All be honest with you I had an 86 iroc when i was 17. I loved that car and my ex wife pretty much made me sell it. If i had a chance to buy that car back i would pay whatever it took. the one you are looking at looks good. You may want to check it out a little more and make sure that there isnt any underlying problems that you will have to deal with when you get it home and have it for 5 or 6 months. If i were in your shoes i would offer 8500 or 9000 cash that way you have the money for taxes plates and maybe pay 6 months of insurance on it. Again i loved mine and i would pay whatever it took to get it back. Just make sure you know that there is no underlying problems. The only problem i ever had out of mine was a blown head gasket. Also a blown transmission due to my own stupidity. Good luck and have fun with your Iroc
