Engine advice
Engine advice
Hey guys, I was planning on taking out my 305 and do a plain jane rebuild, put it back in headers, mild cam. That is it, budget is kind of an issue in my case.
Now I have called a machine shop and described the engine. Pretty crappy from what they told me. I will more that likely need to get it line bored (they said $250). I am now debating on getting a bare block 350. Now with that I can bring most of the accessories intake. New heads, crank (crank is crap too), and cam.
What do you guys think. Remember money is an issue.

yeah build a 350, swap over everything else that you can. Since you are doing a mild build get a heads/cam package or just reuse the 305 heads and have them machined for a mild cam. ZZ4 or LT4 hotcam would be mild and cheap.
Can get a budget 350 rotating assembly for pretty cheap. Its worth it to have new rods/pistons/crank anyway.

Re: Engine advice
oil pan should be ok but that depends on what year model 350 block some have right handed dip sticks and some have left. early blocks have rightside. other than that you should be ok but, there is a posibility for bigger injectors but you will have to have the computer flashed

Re: Engine advice
you will need 24# injectors.. the 305 prom.. parameters are tame.. compared to the 350 a chip tune is a must
if you buy a 350 roller block all of the 305 parts will fit - pistons..
the the 305 heads will give you better compression.. but they have smaller valves and limit the flow.. not economical to machine!! will give a nice improvement [ unless you want series power] I would find a LT1 cam..
the rods are the same
