can this realy be done?

I came across a video on youtube of a gta with what looked like a mini ram intake but the poster stated all he did was attach the k&n filter dirextly to the throttle body and removed the mas air flow sensor. He also said it runs better now. Is this possible and if so would you get any performance gains by doing so?

Re: can this realy be done?

You can convert to a 90-92 TPI ECM, they don't use a MAF sensor.

Re: can this realy be done?

So no performance gain. Would it run any worse? How would I attach the filter directly to the throttle body if I were to do it. I think if it doesn't take any performance away it would create some more space in the engine bay. And it looks prety cool

Without converting the ECM the car will go in limp mode pull a ton of timing and generally run like poo.

Re: can this realy be done?

To get a quick idea of how much performance you will gain by removing the MAF, just unplug the MAF and drive the car. Unless you modify the ecu you won't be happy.
A problem with mounting a filter directly under the hood is the engine will be breathing the warmer underhood air. Companies make a lot of money selling cold air kits because using cooler air from outside can be worth a few extra hp. Try searching "cold air kit" on this forum.

alot have tried, very very very few have succeeded, mainly because the vents and the intake don't align properly...
