Car will not run with MAF plugged in

I had my car running earlier after using "flood mode". If I let off the gas it would die immediatly. So than I had my girlfriends father hold WOT and while he was doing that he adjusted the distributor and got it to an idle. After letting it run a good 15 minutes I shut it down, checked for anything unusual. So than I tried hooking the MAF sensor up and the car refused to start.I unplugged the battery to reset the ECM, plugged in the battery and went and tried it again. All the car did was act like it was going to start, but would never actually start running. Kept on trying until my starter finally gave up and blew. Is it possible that the starter was already going bad which wouldn't let the car fire completly and run? Or is their some kind of other issue going on. Checked for codes, and got nothing.

Thanks for any help in advanced

Maybe the starter was old and it finally gave up because of all the cranking. So the car runs with the MAF disconnected right? It might not run well but it runs?

Yeah before my starter died earlier it would start with the MAF disconnected but like I said as soon as I hooked it up than tried to start it, it refused to start.

I believe you need a new MAF sensor. You can try the relays first though. No codes huh?

No, and I would of thought it would throw a code with the MAF disconnected, and when I tried pulling them I got nothing. The car was running with the MAF before winter, than I replaced timing chain, injectors, intake manifold gasket, plugs, wires, distrib cap/rotor, and now it's not working, so it's confusing the hell out of me.

Search the TPI threads for MAF problems. There's lots of info that can maybe help you.

Re: Car will not run with MAF plugged in

Ok, well I replaced my starter today. Plugged my MAF back up, dumped a little more gas in the tank. I tried starting it and it wouldn't start. So I tried "flood mode" and it hesitated and than started right up. While it was running I set the timing to 6. Let the car run for a few minutes, then shut it down, replugged my EST wire. What I don't understand is how is the car only starting when I jam down the pedal, like it's a carbed engine? My injectors are brand new, and I know my engine is not being flooded anymore. And after I shut it down, I get a hot start issue, wether or not I "flood mode" it, or I just try to turn the key.

Did you replace starter yourself? Did you have to remove the y pipe? Anyways, can you pull any codes as of yet? Maybe your computer is the problem. Just a thought.

Yes, I replaced the starter myself, and no, I don't have a y pipe, just straight headers right now. It seems to fire up when the est wire is unplugged, but when it is plugged it, it fires up and stumbles a whole bunch and then dies. With both of these, it only fires up holding WOT, I think one time i turned the key while the est wire was disconnected it actually started, but after that it hasn't.

I don't remember the exact fix. At the time I had a few other issues going on. I would check your injectors/injector fuses. One of my injector fuses blew and it was making some of my injectors just pour gas into the manifold, which is why trying flood mode would sometimes work better or even start. Next I would replace your ignition coil, coolant temperature sensor, and spray some MAF cleaner on your MAFs.

Those are the four things I did to mine and it made my car run good again with the MAFs plugged in. Sorry I can't pin point which one exactly did it, or if all of them were the culprits.
