355 Tpi (is this possible)

Ok I have a chance to get a rebuilt 355 sbc for a pretty decent price , the seller says it needs a carb and you know water pump, altenator etc..... well I have a 86 trans am with the stock 305 tpi and was just going to take the accessories off that but I'm not a fan of carbs and I want to keep my tpi setup so could I use the tpi off my 305 and put it on the 355 and if so what troubles would I run into??? here is the sellers description of the motor if this helps, its a 355 sbc with 305 high comp. heads. It has been hot tanked with newer pistons and new rings and bearings. Has a new lunati high rpm cam with new lifters and new roller tip rockers. Also has an edelbrock dual plane intake, dual roller timing chain and a new distributor..... any input would help guys I've been trying to get rid of this 305 for months........ here's a pic of the motor as well if it helps

Re: 355 Tpi (is this possible)

I don't know if this is going to help any but my 85 Iroc was originally a 305 tpi and the last owner swapped in a 350 crate engine but he didn't say any thing about tuning or any thing

you can keep tpi, just take heads up off your tpi and bolt on other motor.

Even if you were willing to go thru all that above, the ecm mem-cal would still need to be changed along with larger injectors just for the added fuel delivery required and on the 355.

Back to your original idea, your TPI will work with some mods, bigger injectors and a stock ecm from a 87-89 350 car will be a good starting point, but it will still need to be modified/tuned for the setup to work well on that 355.

the angle in which bolt holes are , will not line up on the center ones on both sides.

Re: 355 Tpi (is this possible)

A lot of the answer has to do with how sweet of a deal the engine is. If it's good enough, you can get the cam, have some head work done and sell the new parts that came with the motor.

The injectors can be had for under $200 and I believe your ecm would actually be compatible with a 87-89 350 prom/mem-cal swiched into it, they can be had for less than $100.

The other mods I was refering to is to the prom itself, if you were to use a stock prom. The stock prom would have to be tuned/re-programed for the systems to control the engine properly. If you were going to order a new prom a reputable company can set the various sensor parameters to fit the specs of your new engine as it is, without switching the cam or heads.
