Re: gutted air box?

Air intake box is comprised of two parts, upper and lower. See separate parts in link below. If you remove lower part from car, you can see a baffle system that prevents water entering air filters. I used a regular wood ripsaw to get my baffles off.

There is a thread around here that somebody flow tested air lids stock and also gutted. Gutted flowed 50 cfm more for a 10% flow increase over stock. I did it to mine (bought a junkyard unit to save original). Car feels a little more responsive with the throttle. I think it is worth it.

Re: gutted air box?

I did this a few weeks ago. I was going to do that "Ram Air" thing but was having a rough time finding the ducting. I read about just removing the bottom of the box on a Corvette website and decided to give that a whirl.

I just marked where I wanted it cut, and then used the Dremel to cut out the bottoms and then ground the goof ups down and smoothed it all out. Was pretty easy.

I noticed that over 45-50+ I accelerated much better than before so I was happy with it. Under those speeds I didn't notice anything. Passing on the highway is a bit better now as well.
