changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
hey everyone wondering if you can help me. I have an 89 camaro 350tpi just changed injectors to bosch 24 pounders from south bay fuel injection and for whatever reason i have no spark or injector pulse. I used a spark plug and timing light to check for spark when cranking and a noid light on the injector 1 when cranking and both are totally dead, however fuel pump runs and pressures fuel rail to 40 psi and i have 12 volts on everything in the fuse distribution block under the drivers side dash. Ive gone over everything that was disconnected and it all seems good. Im at a bit of a loss here as to what i could have done or not done, all i took off to swap injectors was the upper plenum and runners as well as flipped alternator to the side to unbolt fuel rail/lines and disconnected only the necessary stuff for upper plenum, injectors and alternator. i assume there must be another fuse somewhere that i possibly could have fried or maybe the ecm or a relay somewhere. any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks alot in advance

im no expert but i have switch to 24 injectors myself a couple years ago but you said you checked with a noid light under the dash but did you physically look at the fuses ... there are two injector fuses..
one should be number 6 spot( is a 20 amp yellow fuse and says "injector") the other is number 10 spot (which is also a yellow 20 amp but says "mpfi injector ") check to see those are not busted... also check the crank signal to ecm fuse which is on the number 3 spot... is a 3 amp and is violet in color and should say "crank" in white letters....
does seem kind of odd that you have that problem... its a simple swap and shouldnt really give you any hassle.... did you disconnect the battery before you attempted this... .if not you might have shorted something out somewhere.....

Re: changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
i did meter out both sides of all the fuses under the dash, both the fuel injection fuses have 12 volts on both sides of the fuses so the fuses are definetly still good and i only have about 8 volts on both sides of the 3 amp crank fuse but only when cranking as it should be. what else could i have done? is there any fuses or fusible links anywhere else on the car for fuel injection and spark? or have i forgotten to plug something critical in for both of these? ha ha or i did i fry my ecm because i never disconnected the battery when i did the injector swap?

look in the classified section of this site. Can probably get one for $30 or so used. If you turn the key to just the on position. Do you have a security light on? When you first turn the key to the on position you should get a quick flash of the SES light and then it should go solid. That indicates a good prom in the computer. You can also try disconnecting the battery and totally unplugging the ecm altogether for about ten minutes. That should re-set the ram inside the ecm. May be worth a shot.

There is also a starter enable fuse under the drivers side dash, check the fuse. Can you pull any codes from your car? Have you tried?

Re: changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
If the VATS went bad< I believe it shuts down the fuel inj pulse. There is a way to jump it by pulling off the kick panel on the drivers side, there will be a relay marked anti-theft. I dont remember if its the dark green wire and yellow that you jump to bypass the VATS, can someone help him out on the colors?
I believe there is a thread in here about how to do it

Re: changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
depends on what part of the vats went bad, i tried using the resistor method and it didn't work, which told me probably wasn't ignition part of the vats. so i ended up getting vats taken out by getting a new chip done.

Yes, but if I am not mistaken you can bypass the entire system with this jump

Re: changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
what 2 pins do you jump in the ALDL port to get the engine light to go through its sequence of flashes/ Ive owned the car for 7 years and never had an engine light before and honestly dont know which pins to jump out
Re: changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
also i dont think its the VATS system the security light goes out after 2-3 seconds and stays out. if i cant figure it out in a few days im gonna rip it apart again and see if i cant find something stupid that i mightve done
Re: changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
yes i get my quick flash of the ses light when initially turning on the key then it stays on so that rules that out, remember i also have no spark which is weird as hell is there a chance that i could have accidently unhooked something behind the motor? is there anything back there that i cant think of? i have a 5 year old msd distributor and 6AL box doesnt seem to have power to it either
Re: changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
if anyone out there is reading this i still need help where are the underhood fuses located that supply power to injectors or distributor? also is it possible that a relay underhood has packed it in on me are there any relays that control inj pulse or spark?

Re: changed injectors and now no spark or injector pulse
on my 91 tpi,the only relays underhood are 2 fan relays and fuel pump relay. there is a fusible link up by the battery and thats about it. inj fuses are in your fusebox inside car.
