Going to fab a custom tpi intake
hey guys i have plans to build a new tpi intake using the base and half the runners with a full custom plenum
the plan is to cut the runners off right above the fuel rails and weld on flanges that can be used to bolt down a plenum.
problem is i lost my measurements and my tpi unit i was using for this is now bolted onto my iroc
can somone who has a tpi unit laying around take a pic for me with a tape measure
what i need is the base on a flat table or whatever witht he fuel rails bolted in and the runners bolted to the lower witht he tape showing the hieght off the table to the top of the fuel rails
thanks

Re: Going to fab a custom tpi intake
This is going to be very difficult since the runners are made of thin aluminum. If you weld on flanges, im almost certain that the aluminum will burn through. I could be wrong though. If I remember, tomorrow I can measure my stock runner. I'll bolt it to the Edelbrock Hi-Flow base that I have collecting dust on my porch. If you want, post a reply at around 7:00 pm so that I can get the automated message via my Blackberry. Im not available before 7 pm because Ill be a school (Imperial Valley College).
There has been members who asked if I want to sell my Edelbrock Hi-Flow Base. Im sorry guys. The base is not for sale. Im saving up to buy a set of Edelbrock Runners.
Again, sorry guys. Chevy86 IROC-Z

If you are going to be fabricating an intake system maybe you would be better off acquiring a used base, fuel rails and what ever else you may need. That way you can mock things up to your hearts content. That is the way I do.

Re: Going to fab a custom tpi intake
normally i would but i dont have the extra cash around to buy a second tpi system, besides i only need the measurement of the fuel rails, then i can draw up the plenum and flanges and machine them out. once thats done ill remove my tpi system and weld it together

Re: Going to fab a custom tpi intake
I would strongly suggest that if your gonna cut half of the runners off, then you might as well try to look for a "Super Ram" intake. It has extrememly large diameter runners that are similar to the TPI runners, but they are cut in half. The runners go from the stock or after market TPI base up to and mount to the underside of the large plenum. It'll save you the measurements and time and you will notice a great deal of HP gains. Below are some pictures.... P.S. Be aware that these systems are a bit pricey... even the used ones. I sold a set of runners for $150 last year. Just the runners!!!!
