L98 wont stay running?

so the car has been running great as of lately but we had some pretty extreme rain on wednesday and i unfortunately had to get to class so i had to drive in it.

i went back out to my car yesterday and it wont stay running.

i can keep it running if i keep my foot on the gas but as soon as i let off..it dies

i know its not the ECM because the ses light still blinks twice at ignition and only throws a code 12.

what could the problem be? could the rain have got to something?

Re: L98 wont stay running?

If you keep giving it gas for a good minute or so, will it then stay idling by itself? Drives perfectly fine, yet won't idle. Idles poorly, but stays idling? Then once it will stay idling, but poor, will it idle nice & smooth after a few minutes?

I'm currently fighting that issue & it is looking as if the O2 sensor is the culprit.

Re: L98 wont stay running?

well i know that when it rained really hard a couple months ago my car did the same thing.... come to find out that somehow water got into the maf relay sensor on the firewall and causing all sorts of hard starts and stalling issues.. i took the relay out and water was all in there.... replaced that and the other sensors on the firewall and never had a problem since...

Sounds exactly like mine right now. If I keep giving it gas for a few minutes for the O2 sensor to start warming up, it will stay running, but still rough. Keep it running a little longer, for the O2 sensor to get even warmer & it will end up idling just as smooth as ever. Takes about 5min plus for the sensor to get fully warmed up, but perfectly drivable when it gets there.

Try giving it gas long enough for it warm up & see if that helps.

Re: L98 wont stay running?

also make sure you dont have any moisture in your dizzy area or better yet under the dizzy.... that will also cause an extremely hard start and casue problems....

If you just replaced yours, it's not likely (but not entirely impossible) that the 02 sensor is bad.

Re: L98 wont stay running?

how do u know it's not injectors? did you test them? hey, unplug the maf and see if it runs better. Mine acted like your car when my prom went bad, and yes i still got code 12 as normal. Car just ran like it was stuck in diagnostic mode. Could be the ecm too. Does your car ping when you take it past 3k rpm?

Out of curiosity did you unhook the battery for 10 minutes and re hook it back up?

Re: L98 wont stay running?

Details? Location? Parts link?

This? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=891210_0_0_

Mine started acting weird today. Rough idle would suddenly smooth out, then go rough again. Obviously something was working/not working/working, but tracing it....ARGH!

Re: L98 wont stay running?

You ever get a trouble code?

I can see the IAC being my problem despite my MAF code. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...-misfires.html
because it drives fine after warmed up, but idles like crap.
