Question about cam

I'm putting a motor together out of left over junk at my house. So far its a 350 and heads from a 94 chevy truck and a TPI intake from a Transam. I somehow ended up with the Lunati Voodoo 60101 cam from a previous project. The heads have better springs already, but i'm wondering if this cam would work well. and no, converting to a roller cam is not an option.

Voodoo 60101 isn't computer compatible.

Re: Question about cam

Lunati says it'll work for tpi. Any specific reason it won't? It should pull decent vacuum.

Re: Question about cam

The Voodoo 60101 will work you mite need a tune I was going to use that cam my self until I went to a roller block instead.

The 60101 is a mellow cam you mite get away with out a tune I running a GM Hotcam some have said you can use this cam with out a tune.
The Hotcam is a little hotter cam.

I have a 383 in my car so I had my tuned.

Re: Question about cam

It will be getting tuned. I'd love to convert to a roller cam but that's just not in the cards at the moment. I'm doing the intake cam and long tube headers all at once.

Re: Question about cam

that 60101 is probably the biggest one you could run, although most of the tpi vortech head/intake swaps i have seen, guys tend to go bigger with the cam and have it tuned.

Re: Question about cam

The reason I went rooler the Block I had was cracked the new block was a roller block out of a truck it was not tapped for the Cam plate and the liffter spiders that was a a easy do it our self fix.

If you have a OEM roller block it not that much more money if you go about right to use a roller cam set up I think it cost me $100.00 more to go this route.

If you with a retro fit type set up then you start talking about lots of money to make it a roller cam set up.

Re: Question about cam

I was told the block I have is from a 94 truck. I know it isn't tapped for the spider tho. If its not much more I may convert it. I don't need a wild cam, horsepower isn't my goal. Just reasonable torque. And with the tpi intake, I don't plan on revving it high. Maybe 4500, or 5000 rpm.

Re: Question about cam

What I did is flaten the top of the spider boss in the intake valley put the spirder over the bosses very carfuly drilled the bosses then tapped them.

For the cam walk plate installed the cam put the cam walker plate center it and driled those holes and tapped them.

It not hard I think it was about a hour worth of work.

OEM GM roller Liffter though Summite or Jegs I think I paid $100.00 for all 16 they do sell a kit with spider cam plate liffter I think push rods for around $200.00.

Like I said you can get a GM hotcam for cheep the stock size push rods from CC for $35.00 for a set of 16.

I have a roller cam I was told out a HO Z28 and a set of roller liffters push rods and a set of 1.5 Aluminun full roller rockers arms for a good price, the roller rockers only have 3000 miles on them the liffters and cam I dont know.
I also have a Hi Performance chip I had in my 355 motor that should work for this set uo if you want to make a package deal.
