Re: v6 to tpi swap
the answers to how long or how hard depends on your skill and experience
It's not an easy swap. you've got to replace the engine, wiring harness, computer, transmission, springs, and maybe even the radiator. Where are you getting these parts? do you have a donor car lying around? If not, and you plan on buying all of them one item at a time, you're going to be spending a lot more money that it would just cost to buy a complete car.
My suggestion? If you want a V8 car, sell your V6 car to somebody that will appreciate it,and go buy a V8 car
yes it can be done, but it's one of the sillier swaps out there. the only way I would change out a v6 for a v8 is to get some real power, like putting in a Ls1 with a t56

Re: v6 to tpi swap
to hang with those guys you better be looking at a Ls6, or you are going to still be left in the dust.

Re: v6 to tpi swap
the weight difference isn't enough to compensate for the difference between a stock TPI and a stock LS6.

Re: v6 to tpi swap
if you go t56 with a tpi and do a lot of highway driving, you should see your MPG go up over the v6. around town, it will go down.
all this is assuming the tpi engine is installed perfectly and running to factory specs or better. I've heard of TPI cars getting 12 MPG is they aren't running perfectly, and those are very temperamental engines
what's your budget?
this swap is physically possible of course, but I'm wondering if you have any clue about the complexity of what you are dreaming about undertaking. Have you ever sat down and written out the list of parts you will need to buy to complete it? Do you have a donor car, or were you planning on buying the parts one at a time from other people parting out cars?
go ahead, use this thread to brainstorm. List the parts, and what you are hoping to spend on each of them.

Re: v6 to tpi swap
If you go to my website, I have some files loaded there. One of the is a spreadsheet that lists all the parts I used, and all the projects I had to do to get the install done. I paid $200 for a complete TPI setup, and my total cost was over $1500 when completed. The problem with buying used components is that you don't know what is good, and you wind up replacing a lot of parts. IF you can find a running donor car, and can drive it so you know that everything is working properly, it will save you some heartaches.
