Runners, intake??
I have been searching all kinds of sites and I can't come up with an answer. I got a L98 with a lt1 cam, 28# injectors, short tube hookers, 3" pipes into a flowmaster no cat, k&n filters, built trans with a 2400 stall.
I am looking for some more power, but I want to keep it around 500 bux.
I am thinking that some larger or siamesed runners and a ported plenum and some 1:6 rr's are the way to go with what I have. I have looked into spending some more money on a First intake or a HSR, but I am not wanting to spend that much.
I guess my question is, is this a good route to go? Maybe later adding a Edelbrock base? My plans are for a small supercharger in the future like a P-1SC. I don't really want to waste money if I'll will have to swap out the intake after going with the forced induction. I am not looking for a lot of extra power. I would be happy with 10-15hp with my plans now and 50-60hp with a sc.

If I could find a HSR with rails and stuff for less then $500 that would be the way I would go. Every where I have been looking it is around a grand.

If I could find a HSR for the price I am looking to spend I would go that route. My question still is, would some different runners, ported plenum, and some 1:6 rr's give me a little more power and be suitable for forced induction?

These I think are the cheapest self aligning ones ever. Not sure if there any good but there dirt cheap.

remember you get what you pay for, a quick google search will show lots of broken proform/summit/jegs brand rockers, and the rockers from thunder chicken require 7/16 studs

Re: Runners, intake??
If you are comfortable with a grinder, look for a set of used SLP runners, grind the dividers to about the halfway point and port your stock plenum and base. Just grinding down the EGR wall and lip at the runner entry on the base does wonders for the TPI. With your cam and injectors, a good custom tune on the chip would help as well - especially after porting.
Last, but not least, if you have the dual entry exit Flowmaster, that is probably the worst flowing muffler available for these cars. A swap to a DynoMax Ultra Flow Welded muffler 17227, especially after doing the intake, plenum, and SLP runner porting should give you a noticable gain.
Depending on the deal you can get on the SLP runners,,, and whether or not you can do your own porting and programming,,, you might be able to do all this for around the $500 mark.

Re: Runners, intake??
On my bolt on car, going from 80 series flowmaster 3" catback to a custom straight thru tube muffler in the I pipe, I gained 0 in the 1/4 mile....no noticeable difference but sound.
Re: Runners, intake??
Back in the late 80s when I was tweaking a number of these cars, I wouldn't see any difference in ET between the stock muffler and replacing it with a 80series Flowmaster - while it sounded different,,, it didn't require enrichment at all. However, replacing the stock muffler with a single in single out Flowmaster required a little enrichment and would drop ETs right at a tenth. There was typically around a 100rpm increase in shift-point also.
The 80series only flows around 480cfm IIRC, not much more than a stock exhaust system. If you know how Flowmasters work, one look at the internals should turn you away from one.

Re: Runners, intake??
What is the correct part number for a hsr for a 91 L98 with iron heads? All the ones I see like the 7540 say they are for 1987-Up with aluminum heads. Or the 7542 which is for vortec heads.
