OMG Ticking FPR Problem Is Back!!!
Alright folks I had a thread on here earlier this week about trying to trace down a mystery noise, and I had traced it down to my adjustable fuel pressure regulator.... It was ticking so loud I could hear it in the car, outside the car, it was bad...
Yesterday I swapped it back to the factory FPR, and the ticking went away...
Today it's back!!
What is causing my fuel pressure regulator to tick so loud??
The only thing I've read that might be a problem is, when I did my manifold swap and swapped over all my TPI parts, that there is a chance that the fuel rail/Injectors are too tightly bolted into the manifold causing the ticking to be more audible?
Does this make sense to anyone else? In 7 years of owning/working on a TPI vehicle (Not long I know
) I've never had this happen..
Thanks in advance.

Re: OMG Ticking FPR Problem Is Back!!!
I know it sounds crazy that a FPR would tick, but I've traced it down with a stethoscope.. The noise the FPR is making is the exact pitch, tempo, and sound that I'm hearing from inside/outside the car, just with a stethoscope it's a whole heck of a lot louder... (Of course
)I just don't understand what's making it tick? You're right the only thing in there is a spring and diaphragm, so my first guess with the AFPR was the plate that is pushed by the adjustment screw bouncing around... So i swapped the stock one back in = No adjustment plate... It stopped for a while and now it's back...
Is it possible that the fuel rail can be on too tight?
Reason I ask is that I've heard that the injectors shouldn't "Bottom out" on the manifold, but rather that they should sort of "float" on the O-Rings attached to them?

You are right.. The Injectors shouldn't bottom out.. They do get close to the bottom of the intake though. The only thing that holds them in place is the O-rings and the locking rings on the fuel rails..

So maybe I should loosen the fuel rail/injectors just a touch?
I'll just do that when I have the chance and report back

I wouldn't loosen the fuel rail, if a leak occurs it can be bad news. Just make sure that none of the injector body is touching the rail or the intake manifold.
It is possible that the issue is in the fuel tank. Maybe the pump is picking up air and that is making the noise. May also be picking up air from a split fuel line or a bad turtle in the tank.
Remove the gas cap and listen there for any strange noises. Like bubbling or gurgling.

It ticks because there is a metal seat and a metal disc that opens and shuts. I'd say most of them do it. Some are just louder than others.

Re: OMG Ticking FPR Problem Is Back!!!
What makes this so irritating is that besides the noise, it didn't start until i swapped out my stock Manifold/Plenum/Runners/FPR out for my aftermarket stuff... The AFPR didn't tick at all on my other car, but yet the same exact setup on my new car ticks so loud I can hear it from inside the car??

The pulsator is in the tank. Its supposed to help dampen the regulator and the pump pulsations.
