Holley Stealth Ram, California emissions legal?

Ok gents, I just sold my SLP/Edelbrock intake. So now I'm looking into getting a HSR intake. So my main question is, does anyone know if the intake will pass CA emissions due to no EGR Valve???

Re: Holley Stealth Ram, California emissions legal?

No it will not. Not only for that, but also, it has no CARB EO #.

Yup. I just read another forum. I really don't wanna stay with the TPI. It can't keep up with modern cars. Any suggestions other than the TPiS MiniRam?

I know it's been done. My bro n law lives close to me in SoCal. He has the HSR. But we both are smog exempt. The thing is I'm planning in moving to San Diego an I don't know what is investigated. I mean, all I have to say is I got the car like that back in 2002.

For the visual inspection or to make the EGR actually functional ,start drilling holes

Get a used Superram. Legal :miniram not

Beleieve me with no EO# on it when you get called to a test only station they will flag you. It will happen

You hear guys say "this cam this intake Passed"
maybe they got it to sniff ok but the rest-

Re: Holley Stealth Ram, California emissions legal?

The Superram if ugly as heck. I'd like to use another form of terms but I'd rather not get banned for profanity. Down here in the Imperial Valley, I don't have to take emissions period. I just find it completely absurd that to stay EFI, I have a very limited choice of intakes. That really flips my lid!!!!!

Do you really think you could 'pay-off' the tech at a Test Only center, in Los Angeles County?

I should sell tickets; I'll be smogging within the next month.

In LA, I don't think so. In Huntington Park, possibly. Here where I live, 75% of all smog stations take home a little unreported wages, if you know what I mean.

Take your chances then up to you.
Dont know too many guys these days willing to risk their livelihood for a few hun sure there are some out there somewhere. Back in the 80s it was easy everyone did it. Nowadays seems like too much of a risk to have to count on finding someone

Superram may be butt ugly and they work real real well and can support good power

Re: Holley Stealth Ram, California emissions legal?

Getting your car to pass smog in cali via the "unreported income" route is expensive.. last I heard the going rate was $350-$500.

The smog laws were one of the big reasons I moved to CO from CA. No visuals anywhere here, and only a couple counties do the sniffer.

I would R&R intakes for the test before I'd pay, well, let's just say through the nose.

Two years ago I paid $59.95, including cert & electronic transfer fee.

Re: Holley Stealth Ram, California emissions legal?

Well I said the heck with it and bought myself a HSR. Im really stoked about it too. I didnt realize it, but all I have to do is if I do move out of the current county, all I gotta do is change my address to my parents address instead of reporting to the DMV my new mailing address. Boom. Problem solved.

Here is my plan of my Power Plant project below:

That red Stealth Ram gets around!

Interesting porting. I don't think I have seen anyone shorten the runners on the Stealth ram like that.

This one is brand spankin new. The seller never had it installed. He bought it without realizing that there is the rear port for a dizzy. But he realized it after powdercoating it. I got it dirt cheap. $300 shipped. As for the porting, I got the idea from a porter from here. He was so generous to let me know what tools to get and what approach to take on my porting job. Cool guy man.

Re: Holley Stealth Ram, California emissions legal?

So you needed an intake with 1 in less runner length?

What did he tell you all the siamesing would do for you? need to slow down air speed just curious

Re: Holley Stealth Ram, California emissions legal?

It will allow the air to transition into the runners more smoothly, especially runners # 3,7,4, & 8. Plenum size is big too. But if you've never paired a HSR base to a AFR 1040, then you don't know what I'm dealing with. For one, the ports on the bottom of the HSR intake base are not exactly square. So port matching is a must. Also, the FelPro gasket is not a perfect match for the heads either. The intake base must be matched to the heads, not the gasket. The AFR heads don't have a common rectangle port and AFR does not make matching intake gaskets. So regardless of anything, porting of the intake base is a must if port matching is desired.

None of that addresses the drastic shortening of the runners.

When I had a stealth ram, I knife edged the top of the runners to improve the transition, but I did not shorten the runners.

Heck man. I don't know. All I gotta say is when the whole install is complete, and I'm able to beat my bro n law (87 IROC non-ported HSR equipped), then that'll prove that the porting does have a advantage.
