tune port cold start injector quesion

Hello Everyone,
i just had a swap done on my 1989 ( used to be 5.0 auto iroc z). i installed the complete drivetrain, 5.7 engine/w harness and computer and 5sp trans/w accessories, from a 1987 iroc.z. at his point the will only start after i spray carb cleaned into the intake. i just read that in 1989 chevy deleated the cold start injector. my question is if the engine is calling for the injector to prime, what would be the best approach. is there some sort of aftermarket device for this issue. can a wire be ran in some sort of way to the injector. im lost please help... thanks

Was the engine starting cold correctly before you installed it?
Does it start without the spray when the engine is warm ?
If not you have other problems

On a '87 the CSI is purely electrical; not connected with the computer like on '89+ cars
A switch supplies power to the CS injector only while the engine is cranking over ( and only when the engine is cold )
Check the cold start switch at front of intake to see if it has 12V when cranking and is outputting 12V to the cold start injector
You may not have the power wire connected to the starter terminal

CSI Switch is the brass hex head unit to left of CTS circled in pic

Re: tune port cold start injector quesion

Hey Vetteoz
The 5.7 engine ran perfect before I pulled it out of the donor car.

Now as far as 5.0 engine it ran at first, then I had to replace the fuel pump
Then it ran but rough.

You mentioned the switch supply power to the cs. Is that power coming from the ignition switch on the column, and is sent to the csi. Because the column was changed. But the only thing I did not change was the harness under the dash and thru out the car.

Double check your fuel pressure just to be safe

i just spoke to the owner of the shop and he said the fuel pressure is between 38-45. he is going to check the power to the csi when he gets to the shop.

45psi is with the engine running and vacuum hose on the fuel pressure regulator. 38psi will be with vacuum disconnected from the fpr.

if this turns out to be a cold start issue you might be better doing a custom tune to the 89 $6e starting with a corvette .bin and changing the spark advance and lv8 tables sine there was never a production f-body tpi L98 manual trans.

So my car is back a$$wards as my fuel pressure is 32 psi at idle and increases as vacuum decreases. maybe I should connect the FPR to ported vacuum instead of manifold vacuum? I don't think so, but my manual and I could be wrong.

Pressure is typically 45 psi with vac line disconnected.
Should be around 39 -40@ idle with vac line connected and pressure should rise as vac drops.
High vac lifts the diaphragm connected to the valve in the reg up reducing the pressure ;
when vac drops the diaphragm is lowered and pressure rises
