Using a FAST ecm to control TPI
Anybody swap out the stock ecm for a fast system. My motor is highly modified and wouldn't run on the stock ecm

Re: Using a FAST ecm to control TPI
How "highly" modified? (there is only so much you can do to a 383 while running a TPI intake )
Who was doing the tuning ?
Plenty of radical engines on here being run by reprogrammed stock ECM's
F.A.S.T uses the same ECM inputs ( sensors) as the stock system ; is just much more user friendly in terms of tuning

First I had TPIS burn me a new chip twice. Then I put a Holley commander 950 in it brought it to 2 different tuners after spending over $1000 on tuning and the car still not running right I am putting in a FAST self tuning system. I talked the guys at FAST and they said the self tuning would work

Question needs to asked , way would you run a cam with that sort of duration on a TPI intake that can't make use of it.
What LSA is the cam ?
Of course they would , they are trying to sell you something. Assume you are talking about FAST EZ EFI ?

You are aware it only does fuel control , you lose electronic control of the spark that you have with the stock ECM programming

It's a 383 running 10.5 to 1 compression. Edelbrock heads, TPI manifold and runners. the plenum has been ported to match the runners and throttle body. 58mm throttle body and 30lb injectors. Comp cam roller 549 int/ 544 exh with a duration of 242/248.

No not that system this one http://www.fuelairspark.com/fas/ez-e...-ignition.html
It controls everything. Timing control, fans, fuel pump even bumps up the idle when you turn on the AC. The only thing it doesn't do is the lockup. I got a TCI unit to control that http://www.tciauto.com/tc/200-4r-700...iring-kit.html

I'm not the best engine expert, but I too have to wonder why so much duration on that cam. Even with an aftermarket setup it's still a long tube runner design and has it's limitations.
What exactly is the problem? Idling? Driveability (part throttle, full throttle)?

Re: Using a FAST ecm to control TPI
I cant help to notice he did not say the duration was measured at .050" as what we normally compare with. That would mean its a very small cam. If I am wrong then I agree that cam is ridiculously too big for your combo and am not surprised any EFI system is having trouble running it smooth. Even my 236/248 cam I felt was too much for my boosted 383 and I was running 10.9's
With a cam that size I would recommend nothing less then a Alpha-N tune unless you have a real expert working on it.
