How much power?

In the process of finishing my motor for my free 1987 Pontiac GTA I received 8 years ago. Its a 355 with forged pistons, I-beam rods, and stock crank on the bottom end. Has older Edelbrock TPI heads for a Corvette with the intakes ported to 1205 gasket to match the stock ported factory corvette base intake manifold. The heads have been fully rebuilt with 5 angle valve job and PAC beehive valve springs installed. The runners are SLP with the stock plenum and the entire intake setup has been fully ported by High Flow Fuel Injection. The plenum has been Siamesed as well as going deeper into the tops of the SLP runners. I am running the COMP CAMS 268XFI. The compression is 10.5 to 1. The car is a factory 5 speed and has 9 bolt rear with 3.45 gearing. Whats the estimated horsepower? How fast will it go down the track? I'm shooting for 12's..........

Re: How much power?

Enough horsepower to trash that five speed fairly quickly. Would be interesting to put it on a dyno, and see what the numbers look like.

Re: How much power?

It's a World Class T5 from a later year car. I had it fully rebuilt and upgraded with best possible parts so I hope it will be ok.

I would like to think this combo would make more than 320 flywheel horsepower. I know TPI can be a major restriction but I would hope this motor with a carb set up would produce 425hp.

I had a similar combo, with AFR 195 Eliminators on a stock short block, same cam (XFI 268), lightly worked SLP runners, Edelbrock base, Dyno Don's headers & exhaust, custom tune, TH700R4. Made 321whp / 377wtq. Ran a 12.9 / 105 (at Fontana, CA) with transmission issues.

Yeah 320 hp to the wheels I believe but 320 hp at the flywheel would be a failure. Did those AFR's have any work done or stock? The TPI intake setup is getting a major port job and hopefully won't steal all my horsepower. I'm also running a 5 speed which won't suck up as much hp. And when all else fails I have a TPI NOS wet kit with 150hp.

Those probably still flow better than mine.......but I don't think the issue is in the heads its the TPI intake. That's why I the TPI ported to the max. Do you remember what your 60ft times where at the track? Any traction issues? What mph?

Re: How much power?

Even a stock ported base will be a major hindrance for the 195s easily by over 40 cfm. Should still be plenty of fun. Go put it together and run it downt he track
