WTF happened??

so im driving home happily the other evening and I notice my idle speed slowly increasing?? then it starts to buck and jump and die at random. so I checked the timing as per my FSM 6 drg. then I went through the minimum idle speed adjustment (I got a code22)so I replaced the TPS, .5v KOEO. after all this crap I start it and its idling fine at 900 but then the weird starts to happen .it is like you are slowly pressing the gas ,and the RPMs go up slowly . I shut it off when they got to 6000rpm. !!! I re check everything by the FSM and all is as the book says it should be.BUT its dying ,bucking, jumping as if the gas pedal has a mind of its own. I notice its slightly rich (by the smell of the exh) so far lately I have replaced :: the plugs, coil, ICM,ECM,(memcal I got from brian),TPS.set to .5v EOKO.cleaned the throttle body.new air & fuel filters NEW not reman MAF .man,im SO out of ideas as well as something to drive. anyone with any ideas??

im wondering, could a wonky IAC motor cause these kinds of ever increasing idle speeds??

Re: WTF happened??

If you're worried about the IAC, just unplug it after the engine starts and idles at about 750 rpm. This will exclude the IAC from opening up over time as you are suggesting it may be doing.

I'm curious as to what all you checked and how for vacuum leaks? Throttle body shaft worn can leak, also a wrongly replaced runner gasket, or a loose bolt on the bottom of the runners under the plenum. Have you sprayed all around with carb cleaner or equv. to check for a change in idle? With all you have changed, it also sounds like a vacuum leak to me also. Try adjusting the TPS voltage up to .60-.65

i found the problem. when i replaced the TPS.i had to make a wiring test rig to go between the harness connector and the switch.and in doing so, i widened the female end in the switch slightly.thusly making a intermittant connection.i fixed the connector in the switch and the code 22 and the problem went away. it runs better than ever.yeah i feel like a dumba$$ for not checking this sooner, but hey ,at least its fixed.

Re: WTF happened??

Great job for finding it anyway. FWIW, i use safety pins stuck down between the wire and the wire pins of the plug. It's easy to stick the pins in and adjust the TPS.
