Anyone have problems with Accel base?

today i finished putting the motor together and was putting coolant in before the first startup, coolant started pissing out the back of the motor, looks like from the intake manifold gasket. i have a used Accel manifold and aluminum summit heads. i bought a gasket recommended for the Accel base but i have heard there can be a large gap with the Accel base at the china wall. anyone know of any issues with this manifold? i paid a good amount for it and i dont want to find out that i got screwed cuz its junk.

Re: Anyone have problems with Accel base?

i used the felpro 1205 for the intake manifold gasket, but i did not use the china wall gasket for that, i had one on a while prior from a felpro gasket set for stock, i dont know if that could be part of the issue

just curious if you installed a 1/8 npt plug on the corvette coolant bleed hole in the rear of the intake on the coolant crossover passage .

i dont think i even looked for such a thing. i dont remember even paying attention to the rear of the intake manifold. i bought it used and was told it was in a running third gen so i figured i'd just throw it on and run it. hopefully tearing it down tomorrow or monday so i'll definitely look

It is between the corvette egr feed and distributer hold down.

Re: Anyone have problems with Accel base?

ah, yes i do have that screw in. the water is coming from the other side of the intake though. the other day i had taken apart the intake again, i found the gasket the guy recommended (felpro 1205) fit worse than a stock intake manifold gasket so i ditched it, going with a stock one, siliconed up around the water jackets and also found that where one of the runner bolts goes, apparently is tapped into the water jacket of the intake manifold, cuz water leaks from there too, so a little teflon tape on that bolt should solve that issue too....today is reassembly have to see how it goes

Re: Anyone have problems with Accel base?

Subscribed, could you post pics of the areas you mentioned? I'm getting ready to do this same swap with a new edelbrock piece and would like to see where the potential problem lies.

Re: Anyone have problems with Accel base?

well the area i had the issue with was the back drivers side area. the bottom long screw in the rear long tube header was the one that seems to be into the water jacket. unfortunately i did not take any pictures and the runners and plenum are all reinstalled. i'll see if i have any older pictures when i was assembling to take a look at.
