Ticking TPI

Hi all,

Im trying to figure out this ticking noise, my old 305 engine done it too and i thought it was the old crappy stock injectors on their way out or something, But ive got new Bosch 3's in the 350 and it does sound like its coming from the injectors as its coming from both sides

I think the video actually makes it sound worse than it is, it sounds like a loud tapping but its really a ticking. It was tapping until we sorted out the valve adjustment last weekend so i can tell its a lovely smooth engine if you listen past the ticking noise

A stethoscope may help you out in this case. Not an uncommon problem lately. Mine does the same thing. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...-making-2.html There's a lot in this thread but is covers a lot of possiblities and cures.

My old injectors would tick. My new injectors tick. Very common.

Re: Ticking TPI

hmmm, thanks guys, it sort of sounds like thats the way it is then ? its probably more noticeable for me at the minute because ive got the hood off while i work on the car, i couldnt really hear it sitting in the car with the doors closed, so with the hood on it should be better.

I was at a friends yesterday who has an 83 Trans Am with a new Goodwrench 350 crate motor with a carb setup and his engine is so smooth and quiet its unreal, so that compared to mine theres quite a difference in noise

Re: Ticking TPI

They do tick..But most of the noise seems to come from the fuel regulator.

Just turn the tunes up or listen to the pipes!

No really, with the hood down and closed you don't here them.

Re: Ticking TPI

Yeah it wasnt that noticeable with the hood down with the 5.0 engine to be honest, i just kind of got the impression with brand new injectors they would be quiet. But if thats the way they are then so be it.

As long as the car runs good thats the main thing
