Buuuut don't forget, there are several things that control what the IAC does.
In my 25yrs of dealing with tpi stuff, I have found its rarely "the" problem, most just toss one in and say hey its all good now!
you got a VERY good point TTOP. Eat and breathe TPI for 25 plus years and you get to know them pretty well. Lots of reading and a Service manual helps tremendously!
I will keep this in mind and once I get it on the road and can drive it I will take it to O'Reilly's and plug in and see if it gives me anything. I notice the check engine light isn't coming on now so maybe being able to drive it around will throw a code I can check into.
Clint, could you answer a question for me? I too am working on a 89 IROC I purchased recently. In the picture above, I believe the sensor sticking out of the bottom of the plenum is the manifold temp sensor. Looks like yours has black tape or covering with a piece of white tape on it. Are these wires only 6-8" long and go to another 2 wire connector near the firewall?
I have an empty 2wire connector that I don't know where it goes, and I can't find a wire for my temp sensor. I'm thinking I'm missing a small harness between the sensor and the connector near the firewall. My connector near the firewall has a black and tan/brown wire in it.
After some more searching, I found this. Looks to be the answer.

Yes there's a pigtail that connects from the manifold temp sensor to a two wire plug in the main wire harness that runs up over the Trans bell housing by the block. Hope this helps you.
Quick fix to that issue is the do an EGR and smog pump delete. A guy by the name of Brian with Tuned Performance on here can get your memcal reprogrammed and it only cost 65.00 to do that. Then all you have to do is go to Amazon and get you a EGR valve delete plate and a smog pump delete pulley put some headers on and a 3 wire o2 sensor and your good to go. I know it sounds like a lot of work but really it isn't that bad to delete that crap if your state doesn't require you to have it.
Yeah, I'm not sure what state this car is going to get registered in. Here in Md, if its older than 20, you can get a Historic tag so no emission testing required.
But anyway, Does anyone know where the small tubing lines go off this solenoid? And is the connection shown in this pic go to the EGR valve?
Hope you don't mind the questions Clint...
I don't mind at all. I was helped tremendously here and will pass that on whenever I can. I believe what you have pictured is a EGR solenoid and I think it was covered before in this post. If you can't find it BOB88GTA is who helped me and has a lot of valuable information.
Also the area that has the two little clips is actually supposed to have a small filter on it. I'll get a pic of the one I have so you can see what I'm talking about.
oh ok, thanks guys.
What about the other side? It looks like in other pictures posted (post 37), that there's 2 rubber hoses coming off 2 ports. Mine has a rubber piece with a couple holes in it . One of those holes has a piece of plastic tubing coming out of it. Not sure where that goes, and I assume the other is missing. I could get a pic if that doesn't make sense.
Yeah that sticker is pretty blurry....it looks like both go towards the front. Does it matter which goes where?
The one tube thats there doesn't seem to reach or be bent the right direction but I guess there's rubber hose used to make the connection anyway.
I use an unlit propane torch to find vac leaks. I had some erratic idle issues with mine that turned out to be a lot of slop in the throttle body shaft. It was causing my butterflies to stick open a bit sometimes. There was probably air sucking in from the ends of the shaft too. I had it rebuilt. Not the standard gasket rebuild though. There is a vendor called Mr Injector that takes them apart, drills out the shaft holes and installs brass bushings to remove the slop.
Is the vendor Mr Injector part of this forum? I was looking at my throttle body today and just out of curiosity I took hold of the butterfly on both sides and noticed I do have play up and down and side to side on it. You say he can fix this for me? My car runs around 10,000 still but after driving it for a little while it calms down to about 550 to 650 after it's really warmed up.

Sounds like your EGR Solenoid. The BLACK port goes to EGR Valve, Do you mean the BLACK port on the solenoid?
The top port?
the other goes to the little port on the pass side rear of plenum. other port on the SOLENOID?...so the bottom port?
It shoud have a T in it and a check valve, So one side of the T goes to the check valve, and the other side of the T goes where?...small tubing for the heater controls?
the other line goes to the vacuum Ball in Drivers fender and T s to cruise. The other port on plenum goes to Fuel Pressure Regulator. O MY, VACUUM SUCKS! Right above my finger to the left it elbows over to the EGR Solenoid.
And this is the bottom port you're referring to above that has a T before connecting to bottom port of solenoid?
The line by the check valve is the line that goes over to the drivers fender vacuum ball
