How much is my car worth?
Hey...sorry didn't know where to post this but here's my problem. On the day after christmas this lady hit me because she was driving on the wrong side of the road and did $3500 in damage to my car. Now the insurance company wants to total it...they're saying its only worth $4700. I think its worth more and i wanted some ballpark figures from you guys. Its a 20th anniversery trans am gta 350 tpi, it has been garaged its entire life and i've even taken it to several shows. Besides that it also has $6000 in stereo, custom 3" borla exhaust, and comp t/a's. Other then this it has never been in a wreck and has perfect paint and interior. In my opinion i think its worth at least $8000 but i wanted some other opinions. thanks in advance.

It won't matter what we/you think it's worth...see, when you get insurance, the company bases the value on Blue Book pricing, so unless you have had the car appraised for a higher value AND paid higher premiums to cover potential additional losses...you're most likely gonna be out of luck on getting more.

Well, don't take this the wrong way, but if your car is truly a 20th anniversary GTA, than it would be a Turbo Trans Am with the 3.8L SFI Turbocharged engine which makes it worth a substantial amount of money over a standard GTA. What is the eight digit of the VIN number? The only way a 20th Anniversary Edition optioned car could be had was with the Turbo engine package. It all was one package. If your GTA is just a 1989 GTA with an L98, than it isn't worth much over what they have stated as far as the NADA retail pricing guide goes, which is what the insurance companies use to judge the value of the car, as stated above by Mike. You might want to look over your car some more and figure out exactly what it is so you don't get ripped off.
Hope that helps

If you can't get them to budge, then at least tell them you will settle for that amount, but you want the car back. you can then decide to use the parts on another car, or part it out for the rest. i had some luck with this once. i had the car towed from the impound lot where they took it to my home. When they didn't want to let me have it, I gave them a bill for storage and the let me keep it.

I'm going to get it appraised and yes it is an anniversery car...it has everything but the turbo v6. I bought the car from the original owner but i'm not sure how he got it this way...overall the car is very clean. I checked nada...it said that its worth 6200 so how did they get 4700?

THEY'RE SCREWING YOU!!!!
**** BLOCK THEM UNTIL YOU GET A FAIR DEAL!
Now... since they say it's worth only $4700, tell them you want one in like shape, condition and options and to go find one and you'll wait.
After a few weeks while they foolishly look for one w/ the options, and you show them receipts, you turn down any cars that are not as good.
The offers will come up. Guaranteed.
If it's worth it to you, see if you can buy it back (don't let them screw you on that either) and that way YOU can part it out for profit, or personal use of the parts.
