Still needs some nice SEM Black paint, but functionally it's done. Parts consist of a 30* and 90* 4" bend from Spectre, a silicone coupler, 2 band clamps, a GREEN brand air filter (in red, LOL), and some little odds and ends. Cost me a little over $150. Temperature outside today was 60* and sunny, and my IAT's were low 70*s all day. I'm sure someone will comment that it's not sealed off. I may end up doing that, but my theory is that with functional louvers, air flow comes through that hole and up out the louvers when moving. Guess we'll see.
This is going to seem like a dumb question because I can just go look at my own car, but does the original battery tray just pop out?
Charcoal canister was at that location and not sure what he did with it. Not sure if it changed by year or camaro/firebird but all my firebirds batteries have been on drivers side.
Camaros had DS charcoal, and PS batteries....at least my 89 did.
I had a battery tray spot welded into both sides per original 89 Camaro. Passenger side tray was rusted, and I knew this CAI was coming so I just cut it out. ......Charcoal cannister was on the other side, and functional before the Holley EFI, but once I switched I had no way to control it so I just removed it. ....for the smell....which I DID have, I just built a makeshift charcoal filter out of PVC and fishtank charcoal. I change the charcoal about once every six months. ....and with the lack of the cannister, -battery relo!
To be fair.....I didn't take the whole tray. I left about half to 3/4 of inch of the outside/spot welds all the way around. I didn't feel that a few months after new paint....after the car was more less taken completely apart, that it would be right to try can contort a cut off wheel into the engine bay and grind out spot welds.
