Ram Air system = Cold Air Intake????

I just wanted to know if the Ram Air type system is the same as a cold air intake system but in another version since it pulls air in from the outside?

Actually you could consider it a Ambient Air temperature Intake, Cold day u get cold, Warm u get warm

They call it ram air because of the air molecules getting "rammed" Into the front of it at most speeds, Some people have had good results with a kit for it but all in all a cold air intake should yield more horsepower.

It doesn't. "Cold" is relative. Cold air intakes draw air from places outside of the engine bay- so it won't draw in heat from the engine. Basically it's colder-are-than-in-the-engine-bay intake.

Exactly, its Relative

And thats the reason they make more horsepower, Cold air is more dense

Re: Ram Air system = Cold Air Intake????

I just thought to mention this. I have a 2" cowl induction hood that allows outside air to enter over the plenum and have noticed thru monitoring that the air tempature in the plenum is at least 30 degrees cooler than before I put the hood on. I still have a cold air induction in the front but the added feature of a colder plenum helps even more!!!

Re: Ram Air system = Cold Air Intake????

The ram air intake up front IS a cold air intake. If you have a cone filter in the fender well, or the air inlets at the front grille both of these are going to pull in air of the same temprature. Also nice tip on the cowl hood.

Re: Ram Air system = Cold Air Intake????

All things being equal a ram air system will make more power than a regular cold air intake without the ram air, not a lot but it all helps.
