Holley stealth ram does not fit 91 Z28 hood clearance.
Hey all,
Just got done swapping a 383 with Holley Stealth Ram into my 91 Z28 and the damn hood won't close.
The ram peaks above the fender line. I'm clearly going to need a new hood and I'm looking at the turbo IROC Hood here
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/HRD-B-12104
I know everything says it should fit under a stock Camaro hood, however for me it doesn't.
That said can anyone confirm if it will fit under the turbo IROC Hood?
Additionally I was curious if the louvers and the blisters are interchangeable as I have a set of both and I can't decide which to put on the hood.
if this is in the wrong sub forum please feel free to move it I saw the majority of stealth RAM posts were in this forum.
Thanks,
Sean

In the past, I've seen people switch there left and right motor mounts when installing an engine and run into similar issues. Just an idea.

You might be right in a way. I just spent some time researching motor mounts and found a site talking about different height motor mount engine brackets.
I purchased new brackets a while ago for this build and they were installed on the L98 before the engine swap. I had never given them any thought as they looked the same.
Thoughts on the engine mount brackets being too tall?

I have a built 383 and holly stealth ram
And I out in my 88 GTA and same crap but I cut out a center hood support to fit the manifold and now it closes perfectly
Over a year zero issues
You want to see a pic

I'd certainly be interested in seeing them.
I'm in enclosing pictures of what's going on for me. I'm not entirely sure there's anything I can cut to make it fit.
This is as far as the hood will close.
And this is the underside of the hood.
I can probably still cancel the hood I bought if I can figure out how to get the hood to shut.
Here's a picture of the finished product if it helps.
Thanks for any help.

I had to cut my 89 iroc hood. That center circle piece that sticks out i believe touches the throttle body side of the intake and if you cut it out it should clear, but mark and see. Piece of clay or something

Sort of the same thing here but with an RPM Air Gap/carb/14" x 3" open filter.
I had to slice away a few choice bits of the underside bracing and that left just enough room for the hood to close.

Thanks guys. I believe you are totally right The clearance issue is in fact where that round black plastic hold down is.
I have just cancelled the hood I ordered I'm going to try removing that before spending $800 on a new hood.
I appreciate everyone on this forum. You guys are the best.

Is that an all stock engine with the Stealth Ram and no Headers?

No, it is a 383 from BluePrint engines, I am temporarily using the stock TB for a bit. I did not want to spend 400 on a Holley just yet since the stock TB will work for the time being.
Additionally I mistakenly ordered 72-81 Camaro engine brakcets since my originals were pretty grungy as well as installed poly mounts.
I think the brackets and poly mounts raised the engine up a bit causing the clearance issues.
Based on feedback from the posts in this thread, I had the hood altered to remove the area highlighted in blue in the image below. Now the hood closes with 1/4 inch to spare.
