I've recently noticed an intermittent and random missfire only at idle on my '89 L98 IROC. An ignition tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil) did not improve this condition.
I'm going to start troubleshooting the fuel system, but I wanted to inquire about the injectors. A previous owner installed injectors at some point in the past. I have almost no history on this vehicle, so I don't know when they were replaced.
First off, I'm having a little trouble identifying them. Googling the part number on the injector yields very few results. It looks like these might be a Delphi injector. Can anyone verify this?
If they are Delphi injectors, what kind of reputation do they have for longevity and reliability? I see that they are not cheap, but I'm not sure that necessarily means they have a good track record. How do these compare to the Bosch III reman injectors from South Bay?
Definitely not Delphi, I just purchased a set and they look different. I have only used them for a few hundred miles but I like them. The Delphi's are the only ones that are a direct replacement.
Are the Lucas injectors decent quality? I don't know why I can't find any info on them.
I may be putting the cart ahead of the horse here, but I have a feeling I'm going to find out my slightly rough idle is related to one or two bad injectors. I'd like to know if the current ones are worth sending out for evaluation or whether I should just put a set of South Bay injectors in there if it comes down to it.
I think Lucas are 3 hole injectors you would have to ask southbay to be sure.
You can get that same injector online at injector planet for $24 ea.
This member gave me his old Lucas injectors same part number as your and they are working well on a buddy’s car. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...ns-am-gta.html https://www.injectorplanet.com/products/lucas-01d108b
bosh 3s have a 4 hole design and have better atomization.
But they will require ecm tuning to set the battery voltage offsets otherwise you might run lean.
like vinny states the Delphi’s should be a drop in replacement no tuning.
I wouldn’t waste the funds to have yours cleaned and flowed.
You can also run the newer Bosch 4s with electric pigtail adapters and get an even finer atomization. -I ordered mine from FIC; most holidays you can get discounts on injectors for what that's worth.
The Bosch 3s and 4s give an even finer atomization at higher rail pressures, but with slightly reduced response times.
Thanks again, guys. Tuned Performance, I noticed the Lucas injectors at the link you listed are part number 01D108B instead of 01D180B. Do you think that's a typo?
Also, if I go with South Bay Bosch 3's, what is involved in the ECM tuning? I'm a complete newbie in that area.
I'm going to start with a fuel pressure check and move into checking each injector individually as needed. Time has been in short supply lately, so it might be a bit before I get to this. I have one more brake hose to replace first, too.
Opps , maybe it was a typo in my search https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...0-voltage.html
Some set the injector flow rate lower but I’ve found that can make the engine run even richer.
i have used these offsets and had good results.
