I have a 305 TPI and I just put new o-rings in my fuel rails (was leaking fuel) and replaced FPR.
Once I put everything back together and started the car, she goes straight to WOT. The physical throttle does not move.
Any suggestions?
I never had this problem before I changed o-rings and FPR. Car actually ran really well other than the slight fuel leak that made her stink. O-rings in fuel rail were pretty bad.
I'll diagnose tomorrow. It is possible I didn't hook something up.
Funny, I thought vacuum leak would cause opposite problem.
I'll update tomorrow.
brake booster line hooked up ? Vacuum lines on fpr and hvac as well as map ?
if throttle blades are closed and the engine runs away you have a vacuum leak. Gasket leak or one of the gaskets is in the wrong place . You can seal up the Throttlebody with a latex glove and smoke test the intake .
I can't say 100% what the problem was.
I believe I had the vacuum line from the EGR solenoid to the underside of throttle body kinked by the front fuel rail. She is back to normal now. Decided to detail engine (had to get rid of the paint shops paint dust anyway).
I agree with Tuned Performance. I find it hard to believe that a ported vacuum line as small as the EGR could cause the motor to race. For a motor to do that it has to have fuel and air. Great that your problem is solved. Would not be a happy situation if it happened on the highway. That is what happened to me with my 305 carbed Monte Carlo SS before I did the 350 TPI swap. I was on the highway and suddenly the motor was pulling hard. I went to neutral and the motor raced all the way to beyond redline. Put it back in gear and laid on the brakes and after about 3 - 4 minutes the stock brakes were completely faded and useless. I put the trans back in neutral and turned the key "one" click to off. Then coasted to the shoulder and hit the brakes with both feet and took over 100 feet for the car to coast to a stop. Reminds me of a scene in the movie Blues Brothers. Real scarry. I looked under the car and noticed that the catalytic converter was cherry red hot. I have read that condition indicates that the CAT is seeing raw fuel. Had to have it towed. Got it home, cooled off, started the motor everything was fine. That was the day when I decided to pull the motor and go 350 TPI. Never looked back. Never found out what was wrong. I think it had something to do with the secondaries dumping fuel into the manifold, but I checked everything and all appeared ok. Weird.
