1985 Camaro Z28 305 TPI Fuel Pump issue.
Im finally on my way to put my Camaro back together after 4 and a half years of standstill and now the fuel pump wont prime.
The engine has been running e few times over the past years. Last time was early this year.
Last week i put in a new battery (fully charged) and the pump does nothing
Here is what i did so far:
-Checked for Error Codes
code 12 only ( yes i waited until the code flashed three times, After that it started new)
-Checked for the fuel pump fuse near the Battery tray and inner fender
no fuse to be found
From where do the cables to the fuse start? Maybe i can find them this way.
- Checked the cable/connector for the sending unit near the Rear diff/Tank
I get around 8,5-8,9 Volts
Where is the connector grounded?
- Checked the Fuel Pump relay
It clicks once and after 2 seconds again
Is it possible to put 12 volts directly to the sending unit to check if the pump is still alive?
Thanks in advance

Re: 1985 Camaro Z28 305 TPI Fuel Pump issue.
Yes, the pump can be powered directly from a 12V source. An easy place to do that is on the red wire at the pump relay, or at the ALDL "G" terminal. The wire at the relay is more direct, taking the relay contacts out of the question.
Bear in mind that some of the older roller and turbine pumps can be fairly quiet, and may be difficult to hear with any background noise. A pressure gauge would be pretty positive.

Re: 1985 Camaro Z28 305 TPI Fuel Pump issue.
My fuel pump relay has 5 Pins:
A brown /white
B black/white
C green/white
D red OR orange
E red OR orange (larger Diameter)
The colors of D and E are almost identical. With E having the larger Diameter i assume its the main 12V line.
So i use D to put power to the pump?

I checked it at the Relay and again tried to power it up at the sending unit connector above the differential.
Pump is most likely dead.
Im going to replace it the hard way.
