Error code 34

I put drive train from my wife's 1985 IROC in my '55 Chevrolet. I used a Painless Wiring harness, and had to update the ecm to the 86-89 1227165. I retained the check engine light. Still working through some glitches but seems like I am getting close.

I borrowed my buddy's Expertec Tech 1 and it appears I am getting Code 34 Max Sensor Low. I am assuming that means low air flow. According to the Tech 1 I am getting 6.0 g/s.....what is recommended air flow?
Thanks for your assistance.

Mike

On a stock set up, warmed up engine at idle in closed loop you should see between 4-7 gm/sec of MAF. I would check your wiring/connections at MAF, the 2 MAF relays on the firewall etc.

Check this out for code 34, it has the diagnostic tree:

Thanks for the link. Since the harness is new, I'm certain the harness connection is good. As for the MAF sensor, I purchased and installed a new Delphi sensor after the original Bosch was giving me the same issue. I've even tried removing the filter to see if it changed anything. If I don't have the check engine light on, usually all it takes is to give the pedal a short burst to bring the rpm's up to 3,500-4,000 and the light will come on. Not sure if I need to contact the Painless tech team and see if they have any thoughts.

In the link you sent, he mentions an SD system..... not sure what that is.

Ok...I'll dig into that next. Would it/could it affect my problem?

Re: Error code 34

Ok...the MAT sensor is plugged in. Not sure why I am not getting a temp reading.

I realized something else-when I ordered the new Delphi MAF sensor, I ordered one for a 1985 TPI, which is what the engine is. What I failed to do was consider that I replaced the ECM with 1986-1989 1227165. Looking at the Delphi AF10328 applications, it shows 1985 TPI but not 1986-1989. Crap, can that be contributing to the problems I am having?

I'm about to yank off the TPI and throw on an intake and carb.

Re: Error code 34

The mat could be defective, google gm cts ohms and compare reading to temperature. The 85 maf is digital, you need a analog delphi af10320.

Re: Error code 34

TunedPerf has your back. The alternate numbers are:

Early 1985 TPI MAF Sensor
GM 14081243,
AC-Delco 213-162,
now Delphi AF10328

1986-1989 TPI MAF Sensor
GM 10055877,
AC/Delco 213-161
Updated to GM 14094712,
AC/Delco 213-163 or
now Delphi AF10320
