anybody run lt4 hotcam?
just wondering if anyone here runs an lt4 hotcam. I'm trying to pick out a cam for my new motor and soeone reccomended this one. just wanted to know what kind of idle it gave you and how much it killed your mileage. yes, i care about mileage b/c i drive alot each day and gas is expensive. i know, say what you will, i'm used to it. thanx

Lots of people do, including me.
If you do a search you'll find lots of information. The idle is very lopey if you retain the stock setting, at 750 it idles smooth, but still has enough lope to let you know its there. Reprogramming your computer will be necessary to retain the driveability of the stock cam. As far as gas mileage it didn't change at all for normal leisurely driving (18 city / 22 hwy).

I have one. I love the idle and purposely keep it at a low rpm to get the nice choppy idle
..... (call me what you will). But as Scott said, you can get it to idle fairly smooth if you bump it up to around 750 rpm (I think I have mine set at somewhere around 625 rpm - hard to remember with the car in hibernation and me always screwing with the settings
).....
Also as Scott mentioned, you can get great mileage with virtually any cam if you get into PROM burning. It's all in the PROM!!
Good Luck!

If you're gonna put it in your 90 L98, you're gonna have to get a custom prom to go with it. Its too much duration for the computer to handle. At least, it was in my car. I started doing my own proms when I put this engine into my car. I get about 16 MPG in the city and 23 on the highway, with a T5 and 3.70 gears.

hey Scott. how did you reprogram your own prom. i am wondering because i will be needing a custom one. the best custom chip i found was from fastchip.com and they charge $350. is there someway i can do this cheaper or could you possibly do it for me? email me at johndo1707@hotmail.com thanks alot!
scott: would you be interested in doing my prom for me when the time comes? i've decided to go with the lt4 cam and it appears that i will need a custom prom. i'd appreciate it if we could work something out or if you'd be able to tell me of someone who could. thanks

johndo & Nasty Bird - I am far from an expert PROM burner. The only car I've reprogrammed so far is mine, and it was a very long (a few months) and tedious process, but it's actually very easy. If you guys are interested read this article first, and then head over to the DIY PROM board on this site and start reading every thread. That's what I did, and it was well worth the effort. Also, feel free to ask questions on the board when you have them, everyone is very willing to answer them. Also, feel free to e-mail me if you want tips and stuff along the way.
As far as for where to buy the LT4 Hot Cam, check out Paceparts.com and Scoggin-Dickey. They both usually have good prices.
