I could be wrong, but I think it is damn near impossible to get the oil pan off without pulling the motor. And if it is possible it would be easier to just pull the engine. If I remember right, the distributor starts to hit the firewall when you lift the motor. No matter which way you go just make sure you get the one piece oil pan gasket. Good Luck.

I know a few have done it on this board, so it's possible. My guess is pull the distributor, mm bolts, keep an eye on the accessories up front and raise it as high as possible.

You may still have to rotate the crank to fish the pan out between the crossmembers.

Bigger PIA, IMO, would be installing the gasket set and not having a leak. One piece gasket might be in order, as mentioned above.

Good luck, I don't envy you.

to both of you i didnt even come back in time to check the board, thanks for the advice, i ended up taking off the dis. cap and then took the torque converter dust cover of and dropped the y pipe. Of coarse I took out the engine motor mount bolt and brought her up as far as possible, the pan basically fell right out, took about 5 hours to start and finish with an hour break. Easy as cake...

Not bad for 5 hours work. I think it took me a little longer.
