305 or 350?
hey guys,
i just picked up my iroc a few months ago from a guy who used to own a body shop on the eastern shore of maryland. the car was involved in a front end collision with a motor cycle (ouch, i know, but it's cleaned up nicely and the title's clean too) now for the problem - when the acciedent happened, the engine was knocked around a bit and so the guy decided to replace it with one he had from a formula lying around with low miles on it. he put the engine in, it runs fine, and he swapped the gauges too...the thing is...they're the 145 mph gauges that, correct me if i'm wrong, only came on the 350 cars? other than that, i have no idea how to check is there anyway i can find out for sure what it is without ripping out the engine and checking the numbers behind the block? i figured this belonged in the tpi boards...the car is tpi, but if not, my apoligies. thanks in advance.

I have 145 mph gauge on my 305tpi but it is a 91. I think they put the 145 guages on 91 and 92.

My 87 IROC 305 TPI has a 145 Speedo. The 85 TPIs got a 85 mph speedo.

Another way to tell is the redline. The 350s had a 5500 rpm Redline. The large cammed 305 also got this same redline, but I'd say a majority of the 305s got the 5000 rpm redline.
