Roller Rocker question
I need some clearing up on Roller Rockers. I want to get some 1.6 self aligning roller rockers. Are Crane Gold's my only choice? What is out there available for an L98 with stock centerbolt valve covers? Any info would be great.
Iroc n roll,
Crane Gold Race aren't your only choice, only your poorest one. Comp Cams offers a forged chrome-molybdenum steel rocker that has actually less reciprocating weight, much greater strength, more accuracy and less flex, and are rebuildable with replacement bearing sets. They take up less space nder the covers, and are about the same price as the "Gold Race" rockers. As a hint about the answer to the question "Why are they less desireable than the Comps?", Chevrolet would NOT use the standard Crane Gold Race rockers on teh LT4 factory engines until Crane redisigned and strengthened the fulcrum trunion and push rod seat areas. They weren't good enough for a factory Chevy engine that had to survive a warranty period, so they're not good enough for me. Comp worked for over a year on the design before it was released, and I have heard no complaints about them.
Part number 1318 is a self-aligning 1.6:1 ratio with 3/8" rocker stud openings. 1317 is the same rocker in a 1.52:1 ratio. The same basic design rockers are available for 7/16" studs, too.

As usual, Vader's got the lowdown. Thanks for the info man. So I guess forget about Crane. Are there any others to compare to the Comps? Maybe more budget oriented? Does anyone know if GM makes 1.6 rockers for this car? And what the pirce is?

on full rollers the rocker moves back and forth on a bearing and a roller on the valve where as roller tip only has a roller on the valve and uses the same setup as stock pivot on the back and forth motion.

a company called proform makes full rollers for self-aligning aplications but every indication is that they are the cheap (read low quality) alternative to quality parts like the one vader mentioned. I think these are around 150 a set.
