TPI good enough for 13second 305?
I'm looking to make a 13 second 305, and I'm wondering, is TPI going to be enough to get it to run 13's? I'm not saying like 13.0 or anything, i'm thinking high 13's. I'd be happy with 13.9, but I'd still like faster

Somebody on this board is running high 12 with the 305 TPI and on the stock bottom w/o power adder. The qoestion is how much money are you willing to spend.
IMO, headers, ported base/heads, custom PROM and an aftermarket cam will make you reach your goal.
Good luck.

That's what I was hoping last week at Cecil County.Unfortunitely the custom chip made it run slower than the Hypertech stage 2 chip.Waiting on them to checkout chip.

A convertor and gear will get you into the 13's, the intake is not the question on getting a specific e.t.

Hate to use him as an example because its overused but Preston smith was running in the 9's on a 305 with a tpi UPPEr...still had the stock runners too....BOOST will get you there easy....
Matt 98 SS had his 305 in the 12's with an ATI...
Those are just 2 people who come to mind on that issue...

Heads, cam and runners and i'd run low 13s.
If only i didn't have a vert, i'd love to see how deep in the 13s i can get w/o openeing the longblock....c'est la vie...

I'm trying to decide on heads right now, what do you guys think is better- S/R Torquer 305's or a set of L98 heads? What is a good price for a set of L98 heads also? Here is what I had in mind, it's all going on an '87 LB9 Z28 w/700R4.
SLP Cold Air Induction
Edelbrock Hi-Flo TPI base
SLP Runners
SLP cam (# 51006 I think it is)
Heads(as above, L98 or S/R Toquer 305's)
roller rockers-anyone recomend a good set?
Port matched(if money permits)
SLP headers and catback(full edelbrock if I can't afford SLP)
**** kit(transgo?)
3.73 rear end
ALOT of spohn stuff
eibach prokit springs, etc etc
What do you guys think this is good for? Hopefully somewhere in the 13's... I've looked at trick flow rr's, and the crane gold race rockers(i think vader was saying they weren't that good... may be wrong though). Can anyone recomend a good set of roller rockers that would work with this stuff? I'm pretty sure I need those self aligning ones 3/8ths right? That's an area where I don't quite know my stuff...

13's are fairly easy with a TPI 305. Actually 13's should be fairly easy with any 305. Get some relocation control arms for the rear, S/R torquer heads, some good headers and a bigger camshaft. If you're not in the 13's with that you will be pretty close.

4th Gen V-6's can take out 305 V-8 cars?
I was reading this post over at FvC, alot of these guys think the newer V-6 equipped F-bodys can beat our 305 equiped cars...
I dont see how this is possible, the strongest V-6 equipped 4th gen is the 3.8 powered version with 200hp, not sure of the TQ rating but I know our 305's put out alot more.
Now say you pit a 2002 Camaro 3.8 against a car like mine a 1989 GTA 305 5 speed, if the drivers were equal in skill is it possible my GTA in good tuned stock form could fall to this 6 cylinder in the 1/4?
I own a 1998 Grand Prix GT with the 3.8 it is quick, but I just cant see it pounding 305 equipped TPI cars..
Heres the thread is ya guys like to take a look at the discussion..

My name their is sportinsco and I stuck up for the 305,, now this aint meant to cause a flaming war, I want to see the opinions on the 305 side of the fence...

It depends on the 305. The only cars that I think have a chance against them stock are the L69's and the 305 TPI 5-Speeds. I can see though that the majority of those on that board know nothing about these cars, or any car for that matter!!

I agree with the L69's and TPI 5speed's, those guys ruled out any 305 or at least most of them. If any of em are close enough Ill take em on at the local track with my TPI 5 speed

I am also looking for the same out of the 85 305 TPI. What do u suggest a good stall speed for a TC would be. I am thinking that a 2000 stall would be good for me. Any advice.
I agree with all the guys here... Headers, Catback, Cam, TC and gears could get u into 13s no prob.

OMG...i cant believe on what i read. a whole lot of sh** talkers..this and that. blah blah blah. But this has caught my attention. If you think a V6 firebird and keep up with an G92 you prolly have some problems. I mean come on, I still have a bone stock, yes 'bone stock motor' no free mods, nada yet people have some serious problems beating me down..damn LT1 guys. And what do those have...hmmm..260 HP compared to my 209 and they still have problems. Of course this is stock for stock. And stock GT's..LOL!!! Let alone a "HO" V6. HAHAHAAAHAHAAAAAAA. If your a hotshot who think they're V6 can handle a true G92 MK6 car, drop me a pm. I'm out. Too many hata's in here.
