Vortec truck manifold
Everybody is hyping SDPC's vortec TPI base. Has anybody built a motor with the GM vortec manifold that they put on the Vortec trucks? It's basically just like an LS1 manifold for the trucks. It's got a nice medium length runner design, although I have no idea what the diameter of the runners is like. Other than the throttle body issues, it seems like this could be an affordable intake option. I'm just wondering why nobody's done it?

I just watched a nice on go cheap on ebay. The guy couldn't even sell it last week. Throttle body looked pretty small, even the aftermarkets seem small so I figured that they weren't as good as a TPI. I really don't know......just rambling now

I have this intake from the engine I put in my '69 camaro and it is really different from a tpi base. It does not have fuel injectors like the tpi/lt1 bases do. It has a very werid fuel system. I guess I could get it out sometime this week and take some pictures of it and email them to someone who can post them. I called a dealer three years ago when I got the engine just to see how much the intake set-up goes for and it was over $2000+ new. The one I have has about 20,000 miles one it.

Add another acronym to your EFI vocab kids....CPI. Central Port Injection. At least i'm pretty sure thats what the vortecs injection is called. Basically it has one central injector (tower of power) that distributes the fuel through small tubes into the intake ports.
If i had to guess i'd have to say that the reason nobodies hopped on it is normal port fuel injection just makes much more sense. I reckon it's a simple case of noone bothering to monkey with the CPI to figure out if it is even suitable for hi-po applications, let alone actual testing and tuning, etc.

Yeah it is CPI. I think Ed is right about why no one is using them..........simple not too much knowledge. I thought about it for a second and then passed it up.
Pictures would be cool......that way I could see if it would fit on pre 1986 heads, or 87 up heads before 5.3 stuff. I am definitely interested.
Thanks,
J

I will get it down from the attic of my garage and take pictures of it together and apart. I do not know how to post pictures so someone is going to have to give me their email address so they can post them. I will check this topic tomorrow to see who to send them to. Please let me know what picture format you will need.

Wait a minute. I thought the 96-99 had a mpfi setup with 8 injectors just like the LS1?? Now I'm confused.

I have driven one of the vortec CPI trucks and was pretty impressed with the torque. Also, it bolts right up to the vortec heads.
