Car stalls out at stops... Please help!
Here's the simptoms. L98, It starts fine in the morning. Will idle as long as I let it. Drives fine. Get to a stop and the idle drops down to about 5 grand and then it just dies. I have to wait at least a minute before the car will start again. If I don't it will turn and turn, but acts like it's getting no gas. Fuel pressure is fine though. If I keep my foot on the gas while I'm stopped or shift it into N and rev it a little it won't die. What could be wrong. I do have an exhaust leak at my collectors right now. would this be causing a problem with my O2 sensor?? Any advice would be great.

Well don't know if its the same, but my car wanted to die at a stop when my plugs and wires went bad. Check the spark plugs and check how many volts running through the plug wires. Or wait until somebody else answers =)

I am having the exact same problem with my TPI. Once the car warms up I have to wait at least 30 seconds before restarting, otherwise it will just crank and crank and crank. Before stalling at a traffic light the idle sometimes surges from as low as 450 to over 1000RPM
I will try the IAC adjustment as soon as I get the car back from the body shop

Its probably the IAC... follow the tech artical except try the process without messing with the idle screw...
If there's gunk built up on the IAC pintle or the housing just running thru the steps will extend the pintle and reset it, which could correct the issue. GM sealed the idle screw for a reason, no reason to mess with it if you don't have to.
Other than that check your codes while you're at the ALDL and see if the computer has any stored. If you have codes, fix them first and see if the problem continues.
As was mentioned earlier, its possible the TCC isn't functioning correctly, but you'd probably notice pretty quickly if that were the case.

Check the tranny fluid, you may need to add some. I know of two people who had the same problem, stalling at stops. Turns out they needed more tranny fluid, so much for them keeping after their cars.
