What heads should i use on my stock 85 305 tpi

I have a 1985 Iroc with the stock 305 tpi. I know that My 85 already has a good cam from the factory, but what heads should i get to make more power and torque. The car is rated at 215 HP and 275 TQ and i will also need headers, so what type of headers should i also use. So with all this what should my final HP and TQ be.
Thanks

With the 305 you are limited by valve size. The two choices are SR Torquers or L98 aluminum heads. I went with the L98s as I'm planning on a supercharger in the future.

As for the headers, I would go with SLP stainess. They seem to be really good.

I know your cam is better than mine was stock, but you could also up it just a little and still manage to keep a smooth idle. Do you have an auto or 5 speed?

I have a auto. I thought that the l98 wouldnt work with a 305 because it has 1.94,1.60 valves. Also with either head and the headers what would my new rating for HP and TQ be.
Thanks

Easily 400/400.

With a 334 Stroker Kit in There, You would be pushing 600hp.

I hope like hell he is. There's no magic head on the planet that doubles your horsepower on a 305.

With the new heads, headers, and intake work (base & runners) you might see an honest 40hp gain. Maybe.

The camaro heads will kill your compression. The corvette heads should work well as long as the rest of your motor is capable of delivering and using the flow that the heads can pass.

Hey

I also have a 1985 IROC Z Camaro with thw 305 TPI, what could I do to bump up the HP, I havnt thought about heads and stuff like that, I was waiting tell I rebulid the engine to do that stuff, I was thinking with going with SLP headers, Catback exhaust, K&Ns, AFPR, Transgo shift kit, airfoils, Corvette servo, MSD 6A ignition, and high performance plugs and wires. I am hoping that will get me to around 275 HP and 310 Torque. What do u guys think, The stock numbers as duke said are 215 HP and 275 Torque. If anyone knows of any other mods that arnt extreamly expensive post them....

Thanks alot

Headers will Do More for you than Any other Single Mod on these Cars.

Once thats Done, along with a Catback, Your gonna have to Look Inside the motor to Make much more gains in brute power.

Hey iroc_cragg your IROC looks just like mine. I think that the silver camaro is one of the best looking. So if you find out anything more about beefing up the 305, post back or e-mail me at Duke901@AOL.com
THANKS

I just did the engine mods in my sig over winter. The car is much beter now than it was before but a custom PROM and some more intake work will really start to get the ball rolling.

Whatever heads you get you should port them.
No 305 head is hi-po, even the Worlds. Get worlds
or aluminum L98s. A full exhaust will give about 40hp
after that you may see another 100 out of heads, cam,
an intake and then u will have some power.

I wouldnt personally spend money on heads specifically for a 305. If you want to get a little more umph out of the motor while you save and plan a real Motor build, gasket match the stock heads to the intake and maybe clean up them up a bit. there is a good tech article on the site on doing it.

If your one of those retards who thinks a 305 is a performance engine, CHP made 325 crank HP w/ Milled Vortec's and Comp xe262h

thats not bad at all for a wheezin 305.

Along with all the mods posted, what can the stock transmission and rear end take, My car has the 3.42 gears in it, I would say that the stock transmission and rear end can handle about 300 to 350 HP/350 to 400 Torque. What do u guys think....

Duke have u dont the 1/4 mile in your car, if u did what kinda times did u get and what mods were done to get those times. Do u have the 305 TPI in ur car, what gears.....

Thanks

Hey Bort aren't you the same guy who said the stroker kit
can make 600hp???

(Don't listen to this guy) Get heads, DO NOT get a stroker kit.
