Somethigns Broke...but thats not new :)

Right! I advanced my timing like 8 degrees or so because when the mechanic put in my new distributor it seemed a little boggy under 2000 RPM. so i advanced the timing, felt ballsy again, everything was grand. So the car was running great all day, changed my oil and such. Some 6hrs later I'm heading back to my college and I go to downshift to slow down as I do often (Wish i had a standard) and it feels like I threw it into nuetral. I went from drive (3rd) to 2nd and took my foot off the gas the RPMs dropped to near Idle, like the torque converter let go or something. I step on the gas a little and nothing happens till about 2000 RPM and it picks up again. I shifts fine from 1st to 2nd to 3rd and to 4th NP. but when I try to manually downshift its like it downshifts but the torque converter let go. Same thing happened from 2nd to 1st. Anyone got a clue? Thanks in advance

I really wouldnt be downshifting the automatic if I were you... Itll do more damage than its worth. Chances are its taking its toll on your TC and Tranny.

really? i Know a lot of people that like to do that. Engine braking and such, no? I was always told that as long as ur downshifting in the normal RPM range of the gear it'll be fine. Do you know why it might hurt it? It has to downshift anyway right? Thanks!

o. a lil bit more info When I downshift and seems as tho the TC lets go, it wont re-engage until I get passed half throttle. I tried increasing the throttle slowly to see when it would lock back up and I would start moving again, and it was half throttle. Before that its just as If im in nuetral. Other than that, say accelerating at a stop light, it goes through all the gears fine, smoothly at low RPM, and shifts a little firmer at higher RPM. I checked the fluids just incase. I was wondering if maybe the TPS is confused? -Thanks!
