28 Spline Axle Conversion...
Hi Guys,
I want to install a new posi into my '86 TransAm. Because I want to go to series 3 late model carrier I will need to install 28 spline axles in place of my 26 spline axles. Do these fit as a straight replacement or is there some difference in diameter, length etc? If anyone out there has done this and can help, it would be appreciated... Thanks...Regards...

If you buy the posi for 28 spline then you'll need 28 spline axles. 90-92 28 spline axles are a direct replacement for the earlier 26 spline as long as you have the proper carrier.
Better 28 spline axles are only $125 each from www.tomsdifferentials.com

86trNZam, Just go to an auto salvage yard and have 'em pull you a set. Make sure the bearing surfaces are smooth when they pull'em. Normally they price 'em accordingly to that. ($50-$100). Scan the yards and find the lowest mileage 90-92 out there . Good luck
Sorry, Just realized you are overseas? Yea, better go new if there isn't much to pick from over there. You might get a U.S. salvage yard to ship ya some ,but it would be risky not being able to see'em first.

what else carries the camaro axle. i was once told that the 90-92 s10 axles would also work? i can find more s10 in the yard, hard to find c&f's.

So if I have a 26 spline axle rear now, I can buy 28 spline axles and a 28 spline Posi and this will bolt in as long as the series carrier matches the gears?

Just need to make sure the axles are the correct length. Thread
