What transmission is everyone using on their 400 blocks? I have a 406 with a TH350 right now. I would like to get a 700R4 or a T-56, but would like some suggestions on what everyone else is using.

Stock trans...on the way out...

 

Modified TH350 with a 8" ATI Treemaster converter.

 

The th400 is almost bullet proof from the factory... but I'm going with modified th350. lighter wieght and I already have it for my 412.

I am pretty sure I have a 700-R4. (it's a 1984 berlinetta with a 305 Q-jet now), I want to retain this tranny and go with a hot (~400hp) 400. Will the tranny live with a shift kit? Or do I need to go all of the way with a rebuild? Oh, and another thing. Does anyone know about how the computer hooks up to the tranny, if at all? Or anything about how to make the digital dash/cruise work with the new motor?

Let me re-iterate to make everyone realize that I'm not that dumb. The tranny is a 4 speed auto, but I am not sure whether or not it's a 700-r4, 4l60, 4l60-E, 4l80, or 4l80-E
