700R4 Shifting like a cadillac, ideas?
HELP HELP HELP!!! I have an 85 F41 version Camaro with a 305 and a 700 r4. Heres my problem. Over the last week my new wife and I were traveling the state on our honeymoon and my car started to slip in OD on the freeway. It was happening when i would try to accelerate. Now, 2 days later I have no OD and the car is shifting at a higher than normal RPM and seems to take longer to shift. It shifts very softley (like a caddy).
This really sucks because the tranny in our other car (Intrepid) just went out and will cost about $1800 to fix, so we are down to just the camaro to drive. I checked the fluid level and it is at the full mark and does not look or smell burnt. Any suggetstions????????:hail: :hail: I am not very optimistic but try this:
To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the 'D' shaped lock button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting (The black housing that the metal cable is in will move forward). Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the 'D' button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can (putting maximum tension on the metal cable) and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable casing so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.
Either way, congratulations!

went to autozone, talked to a guy there who is heavy into camaros, he tells me that maybe a b&m shift improver kit Stage 1 and 2 might do the job, because the valve body may be clogged, or the springs might be getting weak. The next option up is to pull the tranny and do a rebuild on it, which I can't do here at my apartment. so I am hoping maybe the first plan is more do-able.

My tranny is doing the same thing. I've tried adjusting the TV cable many times with no luck. Next step is to take out the valve body and switch it with another rebuilt valve body that I have lying around. I wouldn't go with a B&M kit though, use a Transgo kit as they include new valves and springs to use and you will like it better. Good Luck

Took me about 2 days to put the kit into my car. I did it in my father's shop on jackstands and took my time. Probably could be faster but I didn't want to mess anything up. I ordered mine from Transmission Exchange Co. (txchange.com). Came in about 8 days.
So does anybody know why the shifts are happening at such a high rpm or do we have to go pay a tranny shop to get it fixed?

This weekend I am thinking of closing my eyes and diving into my tranny. Someone on another thread said that it was a stuck throttle valve in thiers so I am gonna try that. We'll see.

since i installed the shift kit, the tranny would go through first gear fine then hit second just long enough to get into gear then it would go to third the same way and stay for a couple of seconds. Adjusting the TV cable didn't help at all, but the tranny would go through the gears fine manualy. Also, the trans doesn't downshift at all. After a day of driving like this, the tranny decided to shift good for about an hour and now from park to OD, it will go through the gears fine, but when slowing down or stopping the car, it only downshifts into second gear, never first. still doesn't downshift when hitting the gas in any gear. Manualy shifting still works fine and the gear shifts are awsome. I've been told that the throtle valve could be stuck still. Any ideas?

I'll give it a try, I sure hope that it works, does any one think that maybe just a fluid and filter change would fix it
