Weird 700 R4

Hey guys I just got back from the East Coast Fbody Nats. It was great. I got a question though. On my way back up north my trans lost 4th gear and its not slipping but just dosnt go into 4th. Also i'm having the same problem as last year that my governor seems to be sticking because coming out of the toll booths i have to hit 4 grand for it to shift into the next gear. And now theres even a newer problem when i'm slowing down it will down**** really harshly and the rpms will be hi like if you were manually downshifting. So I dont know whats goin on with the 4 th gear thing i'm gonna drive it in the morning and get a filter kit for it and service it tomorrow if ne one s got some ideas id appreciate it.

run a search, you might need to adjust your cable!

If the shifts are real late at part throttle, then the TV system needs to be looked into. (1) a sticking TV cable, (2) a sticking throttle valve. Replace the TV cable if need be & the Trans-Go Shift kit will solve the throttle valve situation. These are the common problems.

you are not suppose to overfill the tranny, so i woud check to make sure u have just the right amount, and that it's in good condition.

I had similiar problem on my trans, I had the whole thing rebuilt and a shift kit put in it. This of course solved the problem, but the main problem was a stoped up valve body. (at least thats what the guy that rebuilt it said). Any ways, I just got him to do the whole thing to save trouble down the road. The only problem I have right now is my front pump seal is Leaking just a tad. I'll probably just fix that my self though. I went through the whole thing of adjusting the shift cable, never helped, My car finally got to the point it would not shift until 4k, which is really bad in the rain.

The last 700r4 I wrecked had the exact same symptoms as you described. It was a total failure inside. That was what made my decision to convert to the TH400/Gear Vendors setup. Very happy with that, you should consider it. Everybody says, "it's too expensive for me." Why would anybody want to save money on a car? Buy a Geo Metro for that. Good luck with your problem. I hope you don't have total failure. If you do, consider the conversion.

I have been told that the gear vendors overdrive wouldnt fit in a f-body. Do you know if it would or wouldnt? I noticed you had a vette. Do you have any pictures of the overdrive unit?

I can't imagine that it wouldn't fit. If it fit's in a Vette it will fit in anything. Check out my web site. I have a page devoted to the conversion. Also call Gear Vendors and talk to them. They were very helpful for me. I have a link to them in my signature above. I know for sure that there is a guy that put the GV unit in a 4th Gen Camaro.
