Is there a way to install a trany cooler on these trannys? Mine runs a little hot and I think that cooling it down will let it run better. Any thoughts.

do you know or think it is running hot? if it actually is them you have too much friction, check the oil level, the bearings, etc.

Think. The shifter gets hot after I have been driving around awhile. And a cooler tranny runs and lasts longer.

Why not use Redline gear oil. I've heard it keeps it cooler.
There's only a cooler for auto. trans.
Put an oil cooler instead.

But there is no pump in a manual tranny. How will it it cycle the oil through the cooler?

thats what i said, i guess if you really wanted too, you could theoretically rig up some type of electric pump, and hoses, and cooler to work, but why? even in nascar they don't use a trans cooler

on a side note, my former boss has an f-350 super duty, with the 7.3 turbo diesel, (talk about power), it has the 6 speed manual zf (its got low, 4 speeds, and overdrive) trans in it, it is supposedly one of the tuffest manuals around because it does infact have a pump, and trans cooler, no kidding at all i saw it myself, when we pulled the trans out due to the defective clutch disk ford would not accept responsiblility for,

With your power you shouldn't need it for street duty. Ede has some real valid points. Is your engine running hotter then normal or your exhaust system heating it up? I'd check the easiest stuff first. You might try some lube modifiers. You can cool it with a external pump. I don't see the cost and time to do it. I'd run some hose fittings at some nonstructal low point in the trans. Run the hoses to a linear oil cooler. The heat would travel to the colder cooler via convection (braking, accel too), no need for a pump. Also the oil volume would be increased.
Just for info:
NASCAR does cool their trans and diffs. Some use external or internal two stage pumps. I run a Tex T101A in my super late, it has a internal two stage pump and spray bars.

I know that there is no pump in the man. tranny. I was saying that he should use a tranny oil, which takes longer to heat up, like Redline brand tranny oil.

And since Camaros are designed to run hot, he could instead add an engine oil cooler. Cooler engines last longer and give more power.

Yes, now I can see that I don't need to cool the tranny. And yes it could be from the pipes heating up the shifter. My motor runs normal temps, but I am thinking about an oil cooler ot just relocate the filter. Thanks for the help.
