Here is my advice.....dont do it unless you have a lot of experience with trannies. I also installed one in a freshly rebuilt 700r4...I'm pretty handy with wrenches, and am real good at following instructions...now I have 2 POS 700r4's sitting in a puddle of tranny fluid. Yes, I am Very frustrated. I spent $100 on the kit, another $300 on a hi stall converter, and cant use either one.
Now I have a Th350 about to go in the shop to have the work done professionally.
The 700r4 is an expensive part..around $1200. If you like to gamble, and have $$ to burn, go ahead and give it a shot. Heck it's only money!
Sorry to rant and rave, but this car building sure has its ups and downs!!!

Come on 'Riley's35089rs+' we all learn by doing...
I would suggest taking your time, and being very retentive about every step of the process. You have to have diligence with transmissions.
You made a good first step by going with a Trans-Go.
Good Luck,
Ron

I learned alright..I learned to leave the tranny to the pro's. Yeah I'm a lot bummed over my tranny nightmare.. But on the brighter side..I got my new heads and intake yesterday...hope I dont mess that one up. Sorry for the negativity, I just wanted you to know one possible outcome.
Are you installing the "Reprogramming kit" aka the 700 2&3 kit? If you are installing it in the car in your sig, then you have a type II transmission (assuming its stock) and you need to follow ONLY the instructions for Type2. You will know for sure when you pull the pan off, Type 2s have a small valvebody (auxillary) at the rear of the trans w/ a tube going from it to the pump. When you get the instructions, read over them and cross out all the steps for "STICK ONLY" and "TYPE 1" (unless you are doing the stick option) This will make it less confusing. Also, all the holes they tell you to drill, they give you a "range". I circled the larger number and drill to that number. Follow the instructions EXACTLY don't miss a step!

you may get tired of shifting every time to every gear..I would go with the other option. You can still shift manually and hold any gear at any rpm...think it over a bit..and good luck. keep everything squeaky clean and when installing the servo use vasoline on the rings to help hold them in place..
Personaly, I don't think I would go w/ the stick shift option. I guess if I had a ratcheting shifter, it would be another story.
How do you plug the holes in the valvebody? The instructions are very clear on how to do this. The kit comes w/ pre-sized plugs of the correct shape. Take a 3/8" drill bit and chamber both sides of the hole for the plug to have something to grip. Insert the plug and smash it flat w/ a hammer, then grind it flat. Its an aluminum plug, so smashing it will seal up the hole w/ the soft aluminum then you just make it smooth.
Save the springs in case you don't like it? There is nothing to not like. The whole point of this kit is not to be a "shift kit" but to fix problems that exist in the 700R-4. There is a stiffer sping (white) for the accumulator valve to make the 1-2 shift firm, but IMHO, its too much and I don't use it. You will be enlarging some of the feed orifices, which will help w/ the shifts, but all the changes are rather conservative in shift feel. So the Servo and the transgo should be just right. All the springs that you do replace, you don't want to re-install later, it will defeat the purpose of the kit.

What hole in the valvebody? If its a 1st design 700 (no auxilary valvebody), TransGo inludes a tapered steel plug to plug the ONE hole in the valvebody, for Type1 bodies ONLY. Type 2 bodies (equipped w/ an auxilary valvbody) gets NO holes plugged. You'll actually be drilling some holes.

You'll have to get another valve body if you want to go back to stock. Look at the valve body real close. If the trans has been changed, it could have a type 1 valve body and an aux. body. If you mess up the plate you can get another one from the dealer.
I DID IT!!! 7 hour install time
well i did it, the only thing i have left to do is adjust my shifter otherwise it drives fine and i did go with the non manual option, i couldnt plug up those holes in the valve body, so i said f it and went with the auto now that i think about it, i am glad i did it that way. but i can instantly feel how good it shifts, and i didnt install the corvette servo as i dont have the right tools and i was running out of patience. so no corvette servo for me..oh well i like it the way it is, tommorrow i top of the tranny fluid and see where shes at.. and i used b and m trick shift fluid...5 bucks a quart.. oh well why not and what the hell i always say, put in a new filter and gasket, the only real problem we had was connecting the shifting detent thingy back to the shifting piston, as we got er all together and saw that and we said alot of words.. but all is well..!~!
now on to a camshaft!!!

congratulations! The Servo assembly is what I had the problems with....after assembly, I couldn't get it to function properly, it would " hang up" no matter what I did. I never tested the tranny before installing the kit...Reverse is gone.....then....when installiung the darn thing, the T/C slid forward without being noticed, got all bound up to the flywheel..I think the front pump was damaged.....yes, this was a very bad experience for me..Murphy's law...if something could go wrong that day, it did. Glad you are happy with your results....now dont kill anybody!

Sweet! I'm glad to hear you did it and got it right!
The one thing I was going to mention before my ISP cut me loose the other day was, Install a drain plug while you have the pan off. The drain plug always makes the job easyer especailly if the pan has to come off again. That $6 B&M drain plug is the ONLY thing Ive ever bought for any of my cars that Ive been 100% satisfied with.
