How much power will a T5 handle???

I did osme searching but i am still not clear on this.

I know a 305 T5 combo is ok but where does the limits come in. People have had 200+ HP v6s. Is it the Hp or Torque that the T5 cant handle?

stock 85 305 im getting 155 HP 245 Torque. like to ais it too about 200+ HP but where is the breaking point for the T5. 3-400 Torque???

The torque is what kills the tranny. I believe the torque rating on them is ~300ft/lbs but I'm not positive. As with most things, if you abuse it, it WILL break.

They're not very strong. That's why GM never put one behind a 350.

No, there are a lot of different versions. Not long ago there was a link to a site that listed the different ones. Maybe someone can come up with that again.

not sure about the fords but I remember dude in highschool buying a shiny black 80s mustange and he was riping 5 speeds aparts like every few months. Sure it was the T5.

I was thinking if I could get the motor up to around 250 hp but keep the torque around 300 I owuld be cool.
But how do you rais Hp with out raising torque???

305 im getting is free and strong, 85 mostly stock but has headers. thing will just spin around in circles smoking the tires if you hit the gas and dont correct it.

Well when you do mods you usually will gain both HP and TQ. So you can't really go by that. Launches are what will kill the T5.

Big bore, short stroke. Something like a 302 or 327 crank in a 400 block.

That's why the 302 and 327 engines rev'd so high. A 302 chev was capable of running high rpm all day long. That's where it built it's power.

You get 305's for free because they are only good for a stock replacement engine not a performance engine. Anyone serious about finding performance will at least use a 350 engine.

You can get 300 hp out of a 305 very easily though. Intake, cam, heads, headers and exhaust and 4 bbl is all it takes.

I'm frankly very surprised at how strong my little old 305 is running!

And it will all fit right onto the 350 when that day comes along.

why cant you build a 305 as well as a 350??? nothing different than the bores right??? sure heads an stuff but the block is the same, just one is bored bigger.
