That's not my Camaro I would NEVER do such a thing to my BELOVED CAMARO. It's REVLIMITS Camaro (I think...). I just thought that was cool a Camaro was able to drift...

You guys are seriously very immature...But yes that is my camaro and thanks vroom for the complements on the drifting. Just yesterday I pulled off a 85mph drift. Started the slide about 6 or so car lenghts before the turn and slide all the way to the turn. And also slid through out the turn. Damn that was a rush...But anyways the front end I had bought damaged and customed onto my car. I'm in the process of completly re doing my car. Lt1 w/t56 swap, full suspension, roll cage, new front bumper, new rear bumper, etc, etc, etc. After my car comes out of hibernation it will probably have about 450hp/500+lbs of torque. I stopped hating on you guys yet you guys still keep hating on me. Very childish. Moderators please close this thread thank you.

 

Actually I had nothing against your car, but the event in general.

If you see an Indy car drift on pavement, than it's crashing. Drifting, if not mistaken is a 'dirt' track thingy.
I also noticed that the racers basically had there hands & arms out the window, cheering to the crowd on the corner. WTF
If this was an SCCA thing, than they need to fire the inspectors & local director.

heh maybe i'm nuts but i dig your car and do hereby give you KUDOS for goin way ballzout with your modifications. bottom line: your car heh heh and from what i hear of your ideas for Arctic white and such...sweet. something's wrong with my computer i can't download the video but i've seen drifting "on pavement on purpose" and i've seen your car so i can put the two together and imagine lol....and drifting is a real technique on pavement it's to get the line early on the exit of the turn to quickly put the power to the pavement...no i'ts not an indy trick but it's a trick nonetheless and if done properly it's an effective one.

Hey man I personaly dont have a problem with you and your car. Just your car in that video looked different. Ive seen pictures of your car with the iroc rims before and I actually liked it. Except I was too fond of the front end, but thats ok. I agree it takes talent to do the kinda stuff you do. If I did that id probably be in the grass or something. Never really tried drifting, but anyway sounds like your is gonna be pretty fast and look good when your done. Im sorry if I came off as a @ss to you.

 

That was the Signal Auto Drift Clinic that took place 2 weeks ago at Hawaii Raceway Park. Signal Auto is a tuning shop in Japan that specializes in tuning cars for Circuit Racing. They shipped one of their cars and the driver to Hawaii to give a Drifting Clinic. Basically it was a class session and then a track session (Vid is the track session obviously) with the guys from Japan giving us tips on drifting.

Drifting is alot different from other types of motorsports. You dont 'win' by having the fastest time or fastest lap. Everything is style based. You 'win' by having the best looking drift. Some actually consider it an art. In America, the closest thing to drifting is (like you said) dirt track racing. But unlike drifting, dirt track racing is done on a dirt circle with people competing for the fastest lap and first position. Dift track racing can be very violent with people hitting eachother for position.

Drifting on the other hand is a more friendly sport. People go one at a time (or tandem if drivers trust eachother) and show the crowd and other drivers the ammount of control they have over their cars, even if they have no traction. In the pits you'll find all the drivers talking together and trading tips, even shooting the breeze. Its still a competition, but everybody is in it together trying to learn more. Drifting is more of a finesse sport where driving ability makes the difference (instead of superior equipment). And when it comes down to a competition, the person that can consistently pull the best drifts wins.

So why pavement you ask? Well it allows you the most control of the car (opposed to dirt) even though you are sliding. Remember, this isn't just a bunch of whackos out there sliding around for the heck of it. These are people in a race mindset with tuned cars (suspension wise) in a roadrace environment trying to take turns sideways between 30 and 90 mph. Other surfaces would be too unpredictable.

For all of you that did not enjoy the vid (all those nasty remarks heheh), sorry you didnt like it. Its hard to convey the feeling through video. If I wasnt there in person (and didnt like the sport) I would prolly be like 'WTF' too. I was there the day that clip was made, and even though I only got to make one run (needed to save my tires), it was the most fun I've had all year. Just watching a pro from Japan doing it at twice the speeds we can do it was a rush. The car in the clip from Japan was the blue (sparkley) 180 sx (240sx in America) with the gold rims. The car is tuned for Circuit Racing, but he was drifting it that day. If you cant spot it, its the one doing the crazy drifts from far far away. The car was running low boost but he was still pushing over 450 hp (dyno proven). The drivers stick their arms and hands out the window to show the crowd that they have total control (pulling a drift with one hand). The driver shows us he has total control by sliding at 90 mph for 60-70 feet and taking the turn perfectly with one arm sticking out the window.

Accualy we have the Pikes Peak hill climb here, and that is bad ***.
I know they swing the wheel in the opposite direction & then blam put the car/truck/semi into a control slide around a hair pin.
Most of it is done on dirt, but left & right

the video was pretty sweet. i liked the one car kicking it sideways about 6-7 car lengths before the turn and yet he still slide perfectly around it. the car looked like an rx-7/skyline mix but i couldnt really tell. the only thing i dislike about REVLIMITS car is the nose and the wing. everything else is pretty cool even the carbon fiberhood. it adds a personal touch to his car with out goin too crazy, like the nose.

 

That car you saw (rx7/skyline mix hehe) was the car from Signal Auto. Its actually a highly modified Nissan 180sx from Japan. It pushes around 450hp at low boost and over 600hp @ high boost. It is fully tuned for Circuit Racing in Japan (and I mean fully tuned!! looking behind the wheels I could tell that EVERY part of the suspension has either been replaced with beefier parts or redone in some way).

 

Do you guys know how tricky it is to drift like that in a RWD? One pull of a parking brake in the wrong time and *crunch*, there goes your differential..

Agreeably, some things you just don't do to a car if you expect it to live long , but then again, everyone needs a car they can just mercilessly push to its limits. To push a Camaro to its limits you need an unbelievable amount of skill, talent and experience; anything other than those and you either get lucky or some pole, wall, ditch or whatever is going to be all yours..

Mad props, revlimit... It'll be years before I dare doing anything like that on purpose...

As far as how the cars looked - in an event like this, I could care less...

I'm bummed; not only was the resolution bad, but none of those little cars crashed into walls. I got a good chuckle out of the one guy that slid off the road, into the dirt, and then back on the road. I wonder how his car was to drive home? (cough, cough, alignment, cough cough)
