Are axles different for drum and disc brakes???

Dose anybody know if the rear drum brake axle is the same as the rear disc brake axle. If not what rear axle's will fit my 89ta with disc brakes. Thanks

To my knowledge the flange on drum and disk brake 10 bolt axles are the same.

Actually, the backing plate flange is different, but I have seen people cut off the excess that a drum setup has and re-drilled for a disc backing plate.

He never asked anything about the brake setup. Just if the axles themselves were the same. A drum and disk brake mount is different because of how they're mounted on the diff housing but that has nothing to do with the actual axles.

The flange I'm taking about is the part that the wheel bolts to. The drum or disk slides over the flange.

Some years, some of the drum axles had a flange that's too large outer diameter to fit inside a rotor. But not all. Other than that, they're the same.

Oooops, I read to deep into the post...
I don't think a disc rotor will fit on a drum axle, like what was mentioned.

I wish I still had my factory axles. The aftermarket 28 spline axles I have for a 10 bolt will work with both.

Axles

I have installed several sets. I did run in to one set of rotors that did not fit right, but after a little grinding on the inside radius, (where the edge of the axle sits) it cleared alright. On the earlier disc brakes the rotors are smaller on the inside so you have to use the early disc axles.
