Will my 700R4 explode now?

stock 700R4. 500 horsepower motor.
NO slicks, No T-brake.

Will the stock 700R4 blow up (as in KABOOOOM!!!)

or will it just start slipping when its time to replace it?

Im worried about shattering it and parts flying everywhere. will this happen? or will it simply not work anymore...

But yes a transmission can blow up behind a 500hp engine, as in physically go kapbom and send pieces of case and gearset through the floorboard. Not common, but can happen, even with a built transmission behind big HP engines.
Thats why the sanctioning bodies have tranny blanket / shield requiremenets.

hmm so it could blow up, but hopefully not.

Hmm..

is it likelly to blow up? Even without slicks and T-brake?

With just normal 255/60/R15 tires holding it back?

Consider 500 Ft.Lbs of torque @ 1500 RPM-4500 RPM.
Yeah, massive tire slippage, but, will this affect the life of the tranny in a Negative(KABOOM!) way? or will it just wear it out?

My dillema is should I spend the $2300 on the rebuild/converter NOW or wait till its TIME to rebuild? I could use that money elsewhere if i knew the tranny wouldnt go KABOOM!

Coming from my own exp...

My 350 cranking about 380-400 horse spanked my tranny.

my 85 iroc sits restless with 3rd n OD gears ripped. Just my two cents, i'm putting a turbo400 in. Sucky gas mileage but better performance and durability.

My torque converter went POP on my 200c in April... sounded like a shotgun going off. Sprayed everything down with transmission fluid leaving about a 3 foot wide pattern on the road. That was behind just a 305

nothing else (praise the lord) but I haven't looked.

I'm thinking me de-tent cable shattered so my tranny (doubtfully) is still good. But the way a 700r4 gears are, it don't sound like a cable problem since I do have 1st n 2nd. one of the big differences between r4's n turbos is that instead of a cable (r4) to control the tranny shifts delays n actions, the turbos have vacuum lines which I think are better. Are like I said, turbos are more durable and if you want any horsepower n performance, go with a turbo!

Even if you spend every penny you can find on a rebuild a tranny can still explode behind a 500hp engine. Even the best race built trannies can and do physically explode. Like i said, thats why the sanctioning bodies have tranny blankets in the rules for fast cars. Because when a lot of power makes aluminum and steel explode, it can cause injury or death.
Basically, not much you can do to prevent it, **** happens, you know. The question is, are you doing everything to protect yourself for the kind of worst case damage a fast car can cause. On thing to blow up your tranny and wreck, thats racing. It's another thing if a piece of shrapnel gives you a high speed lobotomy or takes off your leg.

Do the conversion to a th400 with a Gear Vendors overdrive behind that. I did mine this way last winter and I love it. I now have 6 forward gears to choose from. It is perfect for autocrossing and road racing. It will cost you, but so what. Don't waste money trying to build a strong 700r4. Just my opinion here, I'm sure others will differ.

Wayyyy more money than I have available. I mean this is a $600 car, I dont need to invest more in a tranny than the cars worth. heh, or maybe I do. thats why its a $600 car.
