Kiwi newbie: Re shift points

G'day lads this is my first post.

Reading several posts on TV indent issues, I still have a question on up shifting through the auto.

I just yesterday bought a beautiful 85' IROC travelled 59 miles, it drives great. Only issue I have and I'm not sure if it normal or not is this:

Under 1/3 to 1/2 throttle it changes very quickly from 1st to 2nd to 3rd gear in like 5 secs. I can't seem to get it to stay in 1st or 2nd any higher than 2500 rpm. I adjusted the TV thingy as instructed in the Tech articles section.

Is it normal to go into 3rd gear so quickly?

Cheers: Wayne

At light throttle that's OK. Your engine has enough torque at low rpm that it doesn't need to rev much. When does it shift at full throttle.

Thanx for the reply mate.

Went down the road to try it out under full throttle.

Planted the accelerator and it changed to 2nd almost immediately, maybe got to 3,000 rpm!! bugger me :-)

Whats that all about?

Cheers

Edit: Come to think of it, it doesn't kickdown either or not very much...does from 4th to drive, but I haven't seen it do it from 3rd to 2nd.

Mate I fixed it!!!! After thinkin about it not kicking down, I thought it must be the TV cable not right...so I searched "kickdown" in the forum and someone mentioned a "transfixleo method " which said it a little differently...anyways I was not adjusting the TV cable correctly...when I did..WHAMMO!!! differnet car to drive!!!

Thanx heaps for askin about WOT, got me thinkin on a different line of thought and fixed the prob.

Cheers and Merry Xmas mate.

If you haven't already, change that tranny fluid and filter--it may have shifting like that for quite a while and burned the fluid. While your at it change the diff fluid too(posi additive if needed). 4th to 3rd will probably always happen--chances are your 700r4 doesn't allow full thorttle in forth gear at any speed. Welcome to the board.!! Sounds like you are off to a good start--you are searching the boards, which is something new users have trouble doing.
