For anyone who has put a TH350 in your thirdgen...

Ok guys, bought an 83 Z28 parts car that someone put a Turbo 350 in. The torque arm hasn't been bolted to the transmission, instead they have it bolted to the transmission tunnel. What I'm asking is, I know there is a kit (made by B&M and Hurst) with a bracket to bolt the torque arm to, but I'm not up for paying 95 bucks for the kit. Anyone have any cheap solutions?

B&M/Hurst is the cheap solution. The best solution is an aftermarket torque arm like Spohn that attaches to a new crossmember.

I'm not 100% sure here, but I have overheard stories that the tailstock from the 700r out of a third gen will fit on the th350..Like I said not 100% sure, but worth looking into. HTH

I think your 83 parts car has the cheap solution. The B & M kit is good and IIRC about $70 from Summit.

i just made my own bracket from steel, measuerd and cut and welded up around the tailshaft. it bolts into the 2 left side tail shaft holes, and a whole cut in the middle allows for speedo sending unit.

im changing out my th700r4 for a th350 and im going to weld in a new cross member behind the old one and bolt the toque arm to that . think that will work

You have the cheapest solution. I have a SouthSide Machine kit on my car which eliminates the torque arm altogether, allowing you to use a turbo 350 and a 9" Ford rearend without any special bracketry to attach the torque arm. (I haven't put the 9" in yet) Of course, the kit is $489.99 at Summit.

The bracket you spoke of is the way you should go. You could always order one, take all the measurements and build your own, and then send back the one you ordered...

anyone put th350 in yet with B&M brackets, how do they mount to tailshaft housing ? just under the bolts, or between case and tailhousing ?

Between the bolt and the tail housing....I just did this swap myself and couldnt afford the $80....My husband has a job in a fab shop and they took a tail housing from an old th350 we had and built a bracket for me to my measurements....It works great....But will be buying the B&M bracket down the road....

drive shaft

So someone please give me the low down on the tail shaft, and the drive shaft, know that one is short and one is long......and long is the way to go (I think), but what about the drive shaft, will I need a new one, or need to refab my old one??

Hiya Peace...ok....I dont know about the lengths of the shafts this and that...I do know that I am using the short shaft th350 and that I had to cut almost 4 inches off the driveshaft from my 78 camaro....the stock shaft from my T5 was bout 3 inches too short..

if your car is auto and not overdrive originally then you need short tail th350 from cars and vans, if was auto overdrive then you need longtail th350 from trucks

im using a van th350 in place of thm200c, both shorty*

I just converted from a T5 to a Th350 in my 91 RS. I would spend the $$ and get the crossmember-torque arm combo from Spohn. I did, the quality of the parts was excellent and everything bolts right up.

I had actually already purchased the B&M kit but sent it back.

Just my 2 cents.
